What is Bakugan?

Does anyone know about Bakugan games?  My 8 year old is begging for it.  I haven't been able to find out much about it on the internet.  I try to be careful with magical/fantasy things.  What is everyone's thought?

Re: What is Bakugan?

I found a small description of one of the characters on Bakugan Battle Brawlers.  My personal opinion of this cartoon - it seems very dark.

BAKUGAN: HYDRANOID, ATTRIBUTE: DARKUS,Masquerade is also ranked number 1. In episode 38, he took off his mask and was shown to have been Alice. In episode 39, it is explained that he is the evil side of Alice.

Re: What is Bakugan?

It's a Japanese cartoon (anime) shown on Cartoon Network. I haven't bothered to watch it, but I am assuming that since it's on that channel, it can't be too harsh for anyone under 6 or so.

Re: What is Bakugan?

I am also on a hunt to find out more information regarding these toys. My boys 9 and 7 really want to play with these. In the past I have been really tough about them watching or playing Pokemon and Yugi-oh. It is so tough when they are faced with these Bakugan toys at school and everyone has them. Have you found out more about them?

Re: What is Bakugan?

Bakugan is very similar to Pokemon, Yugi-oh, e.g. a series of characters that fight or battle against others. Yes, it's a cartoon that shows on Cartoon Network.  But if you've watched some of the shows that come on Cartoon Network (just to see and observe what kids are watching on the channel) you'll find that it's not such a great Cartoon Network of shows (especially at night!).

Re: What is Bakugan?

I am with you. My 5 & 8 year old sons are begging as well. I've let them have pokemon cards since they play with them their own way, but I've been hesitant on Bakugan.

But--from what I can see, Bakugan seem to be less of a concern then the pokemon cards.  I really don't like the cartoons of either of these, so I've limited those.

My kids really just want the toys. They have great imaginations and will come up with their own thing on this, but I really would love more info on it all before I give them a yes or no answer!!

Re: What is Bakugan?

I share the same opinion - that  Bakugan seems very dark. I feel that anything that seems that dark or doesn't set right with my spirit, is not okay for my kiddo. I would prefer to err on the side of being too protective when it comes to what my son sees or hears than to assume it's okay because other kids are doing it or it's on the Cartoon Network - be careful peeps!

Re: What is Bakugan?

My 9yr old son has also been begging. If you check out Wikipedia you'll find out more. It is very similar to Yu gi Oh. We don't allow our children to watch/play that either. I also had a dark feeling about Bakugan before I looked into it and from my past experience, I feel  that it is God giving me that feeling and I need to heed that uneasiness. I applaud you all for doing research before allowing your children to play /watch it just because everyone else is!

Re: What is Bakugan?

I've been hearing about these lately from my 7 year old son because some of his friends at school have them and he wanted one.  Yesterday, he was given one of these.  I hadn't really thought much about them because they sounded like a fun transformer toy.  When I saw the one he brought home, and heard more about them, I decided I needed to do some research.

At first, after searching online a lot, I didn't find a whole lot of obvious disturbing information, but the plan was to still err on the side of caution and not allow participation with these because I was uncomfortable with them.  I truly believe that the enemy sometimes tries to use seemingly innocent things such as certain toys and TV shows, etc. to gain a foothold with our children.  My brother suggested telling the kids what they told theirs when Pokemon came out, "we as your parents are responsible for your spirituality, and it's our job to protect you from areas you don't know and understand about." (and sometimes when we don't even know or understand.)

After continuing to search with different words, I found a few things that really bothered me specifically.  Some of the special abilities cards are: chaos of darkness, face of rage, and most overtly, Final Wizard and Demon Wizard (Excedra is this Bakugan’s name).

Also, all of the characters seem to have what is called a "Guardian Bakugan".  And this next sentence about one of the characters (Alice) really sealed the deal for me:  Alice’s Guardian Bakugan is Darkus-attribute Hydranoid which she inherited from Masquerade after he permanently left her body.

The former writer who said to look on wikipedia helped, because I did, and although at first, I still didn't find much, I've included the link where I found the more specific character info that I just included -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakugan_Battle_Brawlers

I don't think hardly any of the children playing with these are doing so to participate in something "evil", etc. - they're just playing with a cool toy.  However, I agree with what my brother said, and we as parents have a responsibility to protect them from seemingly innocent play that could be opening their spirits to something more dangerous.  I recommend using caution and steering clear of these toys.

Re: What is Bakugan?

So I too have been looking into the elusive Bakugan since the Spring of this year. My son came home from school informing me of the new popular game and I didn't know much about it but it certainly did seem similar in nature to pokemon. I wasn't able to find much on the internet about the sensation at first but here is what I do know that is concerning:

The "fear-ripper" Bakugan has a pentagram on the front of it.</p><p>There is a character named Diablo in it. (Diablo is another name for Devil)

There is attributes like fire, earth, water, etc similar to the Buddhist religion as well as the directions of the pentagram symbol.</p><p>There is an alternate dimension and the actual game involves summoning the character.

There are other concerning things but what I find the most concerning is how games like this suddenly become an obsession for kids. When we couldn't find much information on the game we did allow our son to play with the toys/cards. What I found too is that in the earlier episodes (I read the summaries) the concerns were more subtle and now it seems to be slowly fusing in more blatantly anti-christian elements. (Once a lot of kids are already hooked I imagine!). We never allowed him to play with yugi-oh and pokemon which were obviously dark just based on names and pictures and translations but this one took us for a little bit and made us question if we were being too cautious and protective. Until one night about 2 weeks ago when at 2 am I was woken up by the sound of my 9 yr old rummaging in the closet. When I went to see what he was doing he replied, half-asleep, "I want to bring my Bakugans to school and I think I have another one in here". I was so freaked out that I set out to proove this game could not be good. I think we as parents "know" deep down when something doesn't feel right and that is exactly why we are questioning the toy in the first place. I'm glad we can discuss things as a community of believers and pass on the info we find out. !i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif|src=i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif|border=0!

Re: What is Bakugan?

Thank you for your insight.  I couldn't find much on the internet either and this was a great help.  I feel that there are too many dark things out there for our boys (and it is very hard to determine at times).  We need some cool Godly toys and shows.  Watch what your children do and see, especially on TV.

Re: What is Bakugan?

I just came across this blog site (bebo.com) that has info. abt. these demons, b/c like all of you, my 7yr old, has also played w/ these @ school. These r demons according to that blog on the characters.  My son talked his father into buying one for him today. I had already saw this and thought " I 'm glad my son isn't into that."(shame on me! I must have been having a pharisee moment) I thought since he wasn't into the pokemon and yu-gi-o thing then he would not want that.

I told my husband and son that was a demon and they took off to the deer stand before I could find any info abt. bakugan. I found that blog site and now have printed the info on the characterz ( how they spell it).

First line says " Plot Summary: Mysterious cards appear in front of the children of the world, with the powers to summon monsters from an alternate dimension."

I believe that first sentence says it all.  After they read this info sheet hopefully we will have a bakugan  burning party to send this thing right back to the pit it came from!! I'll be "Priasing the Lord the whole way!!!"!i/expressions/musicnote.gif|src=i/expressions/musicnote.gif|border=0!

Thank you Jesus for letting me see how wrong toys and I,myself, can be!

Re: What is Bakugan?

I don’t know enough theology to explain it to my grandson, but  it seems like an analogy could be drawn between some of the Bakugan characters and satan and The Fall. I see it as an excellent way to make him aware of how DARK the dark side is.

Re: What is Bakugan?

Thank you everyone for your insight on this topic.  I have spent the last hour and a half looking this "toy" up on the internet and like most of you was not finding much out.  My 6 year old and 4 year old boys were showing minor interest until they were given Bakugan t-shirts.  I am very careful of what our children play with, wear, watch, hear and even say.  When I read the book "This Present Darkness" by Frank Peretti my spritiual eyes were opened.  Although a fictional story, the book gave me an "idea" of how the spiritual realm works.  That we truly aren't fighting people (or toys) as the case may be, but we are doing battle in the spiritual realm.  I again thank you all for your opinions as we have now decided to return these shirts to Sears and replace them with other more suitable items.

Be Blessed!!

Re: What is Bakugan?

I greatly appreciate all of the info on Bakugan posted here, it has been very helpful as I have 3 boys (8, 6, 3) and the older two are definitely asking to play this game.

Question: has anyone found a toy that their sons enjoy equally as much as all their friends are enjoying Bakugan?

Not that they have to have something like this but I know that both of the older two greatly enjoy "Star Wars" figures but has anyone found anything that can rival the popoularity of Bakugan?  Star Wars is great But I believe that part of the draw of this game is the "battle"...

What has anyone found about "Beyblades"?
