Every year we put crosses out in front of our church building (on a busy freeway) for the SOHL week. This year, 50 crosses to represent 50 million aborted babies since 1973. Last Sunday's worship included a memorial service for those babies. 50 individuals / families carried 50 roses to a huge cross at the front of the sanctuary, laying them at the foot of the cross. From there they lit 50 candles as a living memorial to these babies that (we believe) are now with Jesus. While the candles were burning, one of our women came and prayed an emotional prayer for the hurting mothers and fathers who have been wounded through abortion. We invited prolife ministries to set up displays in our foyer (a Crisis Pregnancy Center, a Christian adoption ministry, a post abortion counseling ministry, and the Houston Coalition for Life). The saints were encouraged to visit these displays and get involved. Our guest speaker was a woman who had been conceived in rape, then adopted out - and just recently -after many years, has found her birth mother (juda4praise.com). While we acknowleged that abortion is sin, our primary message was one of grace, healing and hope. Sunday evening some from our congregation attended a 5-hour prayer service led by Lou Engle and attended by some 8,500 people, including Tony Perkins from Family Research Council, reps from Focus on the Family, AFA, and more. Presently, three couples in our congregation are considering adoption. And I just received a call from the Houston Chronicle! They want to interview me in front of our 50 crosses . . .
