Forgiveness is one of the most important aspects of a healthy marriage. Dr. Gary Smalley and Ted Cunningham will be available Aug. 26 to talk about the power of forgiveness in marriage.
Dr. Gary Smalley Bio
Dr. Gary Smalley is president and founder of the Smalley Relationship Center, which provides nationwide conferences, books and videos, as well as supporting a counseling center (the Smalley Marriage Institute) run by Gary's son, Dr. Greg Smalley. For over 35 years, Gary has spoken to more than two million people in live conferences, and has been presenting his live, two-day workshop once a month for the last 20 years.
Dr. Smalley has a Master of Divinity from Bethel Seminary, and an honorary doctorate from Southwestern Baptist University. He's authored or co-authored 28 best-selling, award-winning books along with several popular films and videos. One of Gary's newest books is "Change Your Heart, Change Your Life."
Gary and his wife, Norma, have been married for 44 years and live in Branson, Missouri. They have three married children and nine grandchildren.
Ted Cunningham Bio
Ted Cunningham is the founding pastor of Woodland Hills Family Church in Branson, Missouri. He serves as a speaker for the Smalley Relationship Center, and has co-authored two books with Dr. Smalley. Ted is a graduate of Liberty University and Dallas Theological Seminary. He has been married for thirteen years to his wife, Amy. They have two children, Corynn and Carson.
At the age of 26, Ted became the senior pastor of a 400-member church in southwest Missouri. Five months later, he was advised to step down from this position. Ted was irate and asked the advising pastors to resign. During this time, Ted met Gary Smalley and shared his difficulties with him.
Gary responded, "Ted, do you have any idea how blessed you are? Most guys wait 5 to 10 years after seminary to get this beating... All I can think of is that God has very big plans for you, and He is letting you go through this advanced graduate class to get there. He is raising your threshold of pain." Ted never forgot those words, because they forever changed how he views adversity.
Take a look at two books from Dr. Gary Smalley and Pastor Ted Cunningham:
From Anger to Intimacy: Unresolved anger is like drinking poison expecting the other person to get sick. Some drink this poison a sip at a time. Others drink it by the gallons. You don’t have to live with anger towards your mate anymore. This book walks a couple through the stages of anger, how to break the cycle, take responsibility, and overcome the roadblocks to forgiveness.
The Language of Sex: For some, the topic is taboo. Others find it repulsive. Those willing to market and exploit it make millions. The Christian Church has largely gone silent on the issue. Some have bought into the myth that sex is only to be discussed between a husband and a wife, yet while sex is sacred and the marriage bed should be guarded, the topic of sex must be discussed if it’s going to truly be honored and protected. God is not afraid of the topic of sex. Did you know that God has given us more instructions about sex than He has about parenting? The Bible provides more instruction and guidance for how to make a baby than for how to take care of one! God has given us sex as a gift and it’s one to be thoroughly treasured, celebrated and enjoyed. This book does just that, it celebrates marital sex!
