Hallelujah! God will win in the end - it's just hard for us to see how He's doing the work and through whom He's doing the job. We'll just keep praying for justice for these unborn babies.
Praise God for the Susan G. Komen Foundatlion. Would to God that more organizatlions
and groups would take a bold stand on other critical issues facing us today.
Thank God!
My husband lost a sister to breast cancer and I have since wanted to support Susan G. Komen, but couldn't because of its abortion ties.
Praise the Lord.
I am hopefull that the USA will turn towards God and seek him,and he will heal our land.
This nation has turned away from God for too long.
I pray the USA will start going in the right direction, and ask for Gods forgivness...
According to the Denver Channel, the Denver affiliate of Komen has been granted an exception and will continue to send money to Planned Parenthood.
Today, am very proud of the Susan G. Komen Foundation....regardless of their motives....
...there are many resources for the poor to receive primary care including cancer screenings. This is a fear tactic of Planned Parenthood to incite fear and anger and play the blame game.
If they were truly interested in women, they would offer all women a 4D ultasound of their babies weeks before the abortion and give the woman time to consider risks and benefits of their decisions.
Susan G. Komen Foundation is far more consistent in their interest of a woman's wellbeing than Planned Parenthood could ever dream.
I've heard too many stories of the psychological aftermath of abortion and "post abortion syndrome" from men and women and am beginning to understand the detriment to people who receive "services" at such places.
This is why I wouldn't donate to Susan G Komen, I knew some of the money was funding abortions. Stop and think of the people that those babies could have grown up to be. They could perhaps be aborting the person that could have given us a cure for breast cancer.
I was diagnosed October 15, 2010. God is good: He allowed it BUT his timing was great - time for my check-up. I had a mastectomy, it was a breeze, no chemo or radiation, margins were great and I am doing great! AMEN !
The sister of Susan Komen (who died from breast cancer) was on the board of directors of a Planned Parenthood organization. I want to know that she resigned and is no longer associated with PP at all, in any capacity, before I'll cheer this news. I found this out several years ago and was appalled that someone who says she's collecting money to save adult lives was giving a % of that money to kill babies.
I'm thrilled with the news, but the pro-choice crowd is livid! The majority of comments on the SGK website state that individuals will now fund PP directly, and stop donating and walking for SGK. We, who believe in protection of the unborn, must take up the slack and commit our funds to this valuable foundation. Our money must now be where out mouths are! I have already donated to SGK today for the first time. How about you?
I never knew that Planned Parenthood received funds from Susan G. Koman. If I had know that I would have never contributed a dime to that organization. I am thrilled that Koman has made the decision not to fund P.P. any longer. Praise God for that victory but the fact that they did is a great example of our responsibility to know what we are giving to and exactly where the funds are being spent.
Unless Komen will start educating about ALL the truths about ways to PREVENT breast cancers such as the use of Birth control pills and hormones treatment and of course Abortions. Plus does any one really know exactly what Komen does with the money they raise. I mean "awareness" is one thing they profess and Cure' of course but where can we see or look up exactly what kind of research it being done, I mean REALLY?
From the looks of all the PINK things in all the stores and even sports team local and national that even wear PINK it looks like soooo much time spent on marketing --in fact a VERY great job of Marketing. But what about the CURE'?
I read that Komen's web site had a lot of negative fedback and very little encouragement. I wrote them and thanked them, saying it was inconsistent to saves lifes on one front and then contribute to the taking of lives on another. Anyone can contact them: news@komen.org
Gloria, Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms, just refers them. It makes more sense to me to for SGK to grant the money directly to those that provide mammograms as well as other related services. Susan G Komen for the Cure said on their facebook page " It is critical to underscore that the women we serve in communities remain our priority. We are working directly with Komen Affiliates to ensure there is no interruption or gaps in services for women who need breast health screening and services."
So this step that they are taking does not mean that legions of poor women will suffer, and too many are attacking SGK without even listening or giving them a chance. I think most of the attacks are less about women's health or cancer prevention/detection than they are about supporting the abortion provider PP. Hopefully even more women may be helped now, especially if they can put their trust in organizations that do much more good than PP.
Also, I do not understand what you were talking about as far as manipulate God or forcing political change, you lost me. Did you mean that our belief in God should not impact our political opinions and decisions? Then what should? As far as abortion goes, for many people, it is not just about a belief in God, it is about the life of babies, humans who should have a right to live instead of having their life taken away.
I pray they do realize any association with the mis-leading $ hungry industry of destoying human life is WRONG.
Loved ME's getting some quilted tissue!
As the daughter and grand niece of breast cancer survivors as well as a ZTA alumna, I was shocked to learn Komen had been giving money I donated and raised to support the killing of children. I am so excited to know this is no longer the case. Komen, ZTA and women who perservere through disease to celebrate life or remember those fondly in death would not align with the values of Planned Parenthood. This makes no sense, no sense at all.
I would like more info if possible on a couple things.
First, what is Planned Parenthood's budget? I am sure $700K is a significant hit, but I know they have a huge budget since they do many more things that abortions. One thing not to forget is that SGK was giving them money to do breast cancer screening for the poor. Theoretically, it had nothing to do with abortions although Planned Parenthood could shift or spend the money however it wanted to. I pray that no women will go without breast cancer screening because of Planned Parenthood budget shortfalls.
Second, I know there have been a lot of people suing Planned Parenthood over the years. The latest law suit mentioned in the press is supposedly about PP spending government money on abortion. I thought I had heard there were fraud charges and other illegal charges brought against PP of California. Does anyone know what all lawsuits caused the change in SGK funding PP?
Courtney,
I agree 100% And so many products have the little pink ribbons, I feel I'm being 'forced' to donate to them if I want to buy anything! It has gotten to be ridiculous. I have started to actively avoid that ribbon as I am very turned off by the mass marketing and am skeptical they are doing much for 'curing' cancer. Still, I did email them a thank for defunding PP. PP is simply evil. There are plenty of other places that provide women's health services w/o having to rely on the nation's largest abortion provider. In my town in fact, an abortion facility moved and guess who took over their space? A Christian Pregnancy Clinic. [complete with ultrasounds]. What a miraculous redemption! If only that would happen everywhere! <3
Praise God, again and again......They are really making a positive statement.
Thank you SGK.
There are probably a lot of folks like me who, until now, thought that the sole purpose of SGK was to fund breast cancer research. Why were the doling out money to Planned Parenthood? What other ways are they blowing donations given to them by folks thinking their hard earned money was going to breast cancer research?
Thank you Lisa! It is a shame that SGK has put politics over women's health. Planned Parenthood does a lot for low income women by being a safety net provider. It is a shame that some Christians do not acknowledge this. If you want to be anti-choice, then be anti-choice. But don't support decisions that put the health of women across the nation at risk.
And by the way, I'm sure many of your friends have gone to Planned Parenthood just like Lisa in times of need, and maybe you have too.
It is time for people to do some reflection.
Praise the Lord from whom all blesssings flow!!! I would never contribute to any organization that funded
abortions. It never really made any sense to me, to have these wonderful fund raising to help save lives and on
the other hand support a group that promotes killing precious little babies. God still answers prayer.
I wish the cancelation of the donations were due to moral convictions and not because their policy says that they will not fund an organization under Federal investigation. Maybe they will find a new home ofr the $700K and it will be accounted for once the investigation is over. Heidi (post above) suggested we contact SGK Foundation directly and let them know we support them.
http://ww5.komen.org/contact.aspx
Here is what I sent to them:
I wanted to express how pleased I am that SGK has stopped awarding grants to Planned Parenthood and I hope SGK will stay the course once the Federal investigations of Planned Parenthood are complete.
It is a good time for Christians and pro-lifer Americans to politely voice their opinion...it will only take you a few minutes. Let me know if you contact them!
Barry
Before rushing to support any charity that does research for cures, if you care about life at all stages (meaning embryos), check to see if the organization supports embryonic stem cell research. The American LIfe League website has a charity tab under "Resources" where you can look up the organization. Sad to say but Susan G. Komen's tax returns show support to research facilities that utilize embryonic stem cell research. I believe Jesus' suffering on Calvary means something....yes, I'd love to find cures to diseases that hurt and kill so many people but not at the cost of human life ....and human life at all stages.
Isn't it amazing that Planned Parenthood makes a huge stink about who HAS to donate to them. Any other charity loses a donor, they move on, but PPH works the system to bad mouth the one who gave to them previously and has stopped. Much like Target stopped at one point and was blackmailed into giving again. So much for choosing to donate. when it comes to PPH-it's not a choice, it's a DEMAND, and they make it POINTEDLY clear they are neither gracious, nor grateful recipients, they deem it everyone's DUTY TO THEM.
This is encouraging news. The Kommen Foundation is making another decision that will support women's true good and hopefully many of us will consider again our ability to support them in their efforts.
Praise God! And praise God for everyone of you out there that stopped supporting the SGK foundation when they learned of their PP ties. God has truly answered our prayers! He has the victory!
I was shocked to learn that the Kommen Foundation gave funds to Planned Parenthood...it was my impression that all the fundraising was going towards finding a cure for breast cancer. Thanks to all who put pressure on for righting this wrong!
Praise the Lord for this. As many if not all of us, I have had close friends who have battled and are battling breast cancer. I had been supportive of Susan G. Komen until I learned of their support of Planned Parenthood. I am very happy that this has happened. I encourage people to support Susan G. Komen now.
I was late learning that SGK was contributing 2 planned parenthood. I was thinking about refusing to contribute 2 SGK so I'm glad they have made this decision. Another example that organizations are not always up front with money given. Why would cancer research money be spent 4 abortions?
I am happy to hear that Susan B Koman will no longer support Plan Parenthood. However I am not ready to give them my money.I am apauled at all the fund SBK don't pass along to cancer research. Less than .49 of every dollar raised goes to cancer research. How do you cure that?
I knew some kids that wanted to play a scrimmage flag football game and donate their funds to SBK. When SBK asked how much would they be donating, they said whatever they raised. SBK said they didn't want it unless it was $2400or more!
(A) We are thankful and happy that Komen took this step; (B) The title of your article can be interpreted as more of a taunt, a gloat, an "in your face Planned Parenthood" type of comment, not becoming of Focus. Athletic teams know it is better not to taunt opponents before (or after) a contest has been decided - it many times works to incite and stiffen their opposition. This contest is far from over. Remember to "Speak the truth in love" and (many times) "A soft answer turns away wrath." Our work is not so much with the "choir" of committed pro-life colleagues - or even with the committed pro-abortion advocates. Our work is, I believe, moreso with the vast numbers of undecideds, particularly the junior high through college-aged. They will determine the future of abortion. How we handle ourselves speaks volumes to them. (C) Komen stated their reason as the investigation of Planned Parenthood, not PP's support for and provision of abortion. Will their support for PP resume once the investigation has concluded? or if the investigation concludes no "wrongdoing" on the part of PP? (D) Keep praying, keep working, keep assertive, keep humble - you/we are The Creator's athletes. Thank you.
Praise God for the triumph. The connection between abortion and Breast Cancer is as such: Never having borne a child (nulliparous/ nulliparity) and never having breast fed a child, adds increased risk to the development of breast cancer (when combined w/ other risk factors).
God Bless!
PRAISE GOD!
One major player took a stand and that says a lot!
I always wondered why a breast cancer research charity could support an abortion provider when abortion has been found to INCREASE the woman's risk of breast cancer??!!
Someone finally "wised-up"!
Praise God for this victory! All of us in support of this decision need to let the Susan G. Kommen foundation know that we support this decision. All we hear in the media is of the support of Planned Parethood. I encourage everyone to find a way to show your support of this decision! Thank you!
Jenny S
Why
this organization ever give money to an anti God organization like planned parenthood in the first place is beyound my understanding! My had brest cancer and I was about to contribute but it seems that the organization is a little fickle. God will not bless until there is not waivering. Please continue to take this stand. I applaud your efforts. Show me that you will remain on God's side.
Praise God for the change of heart at Kommen! Indeed, He can change hearts!!! Praying for more changed hearts of the powers that be....
Matt,
You can check out charities at the American Life League (all.org) and go to 'resources' then 'charities'. And when you say "no" to a charity, explain why. We need to educate others to respect life at all stages.
I read about this great news in our local paper today, the Cape Cod Times. However, I was not aware that this alliance had excisted. My question now is, are there other organizations that are supporting Planned Parenthood I should be aware of? I want to make sure I am never supporting organizations finacially if they have ties to Planned Parenthood or other groups who do not support life. Are Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and American Cancer Society safeto help?
Maria M.
While this is certainly good news, I am confused as to why a charity with such a great need to have every penny go towards a cure would be giving that money away unless there was some benefit it in (mammograms, research, etc). I am going to be very careful about who else they donate to and if I am going to support them.
Praise God! Let other shell non-profit organizations have the light shone on them as well. If not a true Christian mission, we should not give out our hard earned dollars for it.
I am very happy that Susan G. Komen Foundation cut-off their funding to Planned Parenthood, let the abortionists use their own money for their dark deeds, not charity money. I was surprised that this story is bigger in the secular media, where outrage and boycotting of the Komen Foundation is being discussed! Show your support of the Komen decision to quit Planned Parenthood, but don't be surprised if the Komen Foundation starts to lose its high profile after this? I wonder if NFL stars will be wearing pink for Komen this fall, over this?
Praise the Lord!!!
The lives of these innocent babies are equally as valuable as those with breast cancer. Now I will be happy to return to supporting the Komen Foundation. I pray that they stay strong.
After hearing that Susan G Komen reversed their decision this morning, I'd like to recommend Relay for Life.
It began with a doctor from Tacoma, WA in 1985, who ran a 24-hour marathon to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The Relay for Life is held all over America. Volunteers sign up for the marathon to raise money for cancer research. In addition, local churches are represented by volunteers who pray for cancer victims in the prayer tent. Since my church has signed up for hours of prayer, I've had the honor to join in.
I'm a runner and have chosen to boycott Race for the Cure for the past 10 years since I found out about the Komen Foundation/Planned Parenthood
connection. When I heard that the Komen Foundation cut off funding to Planned Parenthood I was excited thinking that they had taken a Pro-life stance. However when I dug deeper it didn't seem as thought those decisions were based on pro-life convictions. I was also concerned that there might be other family planning/reproductive health clinics that may not be under the Planned Parenthood banner that would still be eligible for funds. I care about all life, including the unborn and those fighting breast cancer and I would like my actions to demonstrate that fact. I've been looking for pro life cancer charities that I can support, alternatives to Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure, and have been having trouble. Anyone have any suggestions?
Sadly PP has once again won a victory for proabortion advocates by using the same old 'smokescreen' of caring about women's health. By now we should be aware that they are about making money, especially from the millions of abortions they have performed, including thousands in my SW Colorado city. The link between breast cancer and abortion is a well kept secret, but that doesn't deny the scientific studies and facts involved. I agree with Barbara that the underlining issue appears to be money for Suan Komen Foundation, as we know that it is for PP. God calls us to continue to speak up for the unborn and the millions of women who have had their lives devastated by abortion.
Contact Komen Foundation and ask why they don't give grants to Public Health Clinics whose federal and state funding is being cut due to hard times. As a 20 yr. volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center, I've personally seen what abortion does to families and women. " We must be grieved over that which grieves the heart of God!"
They give money grants to many hospitals/clinics and reproductive/family planning clincs like Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screening (mamograms) for low income women. Since early diagnosis increases survival rates that is a good thing. However, given the possible link between abortion/breast cancer one would think that the Susan G Komen foundation might think twice about their association with any organization that
provides abortion services. As for low income women finding breast cancer screening, the community I live in has free breast cancer screening available and it is advertised well, without Planned Parenthood.
While everyone here was gloating over this victory, Planned Parenthood raised over THREE MILLION dollars in the last three days in response to this action.
Komen only donated $700k.
So by its actions, Komen has granted PP 5 times what it had before, and this time, those dollars aren't earmarked for cancer screenings.
AND the resulting backlash has triggered Komen to restore its funding.
Maybe the gloating headline was a bit premature. What says the bible? Pride goeth before destruction?
Komen has caved and reversed their position. I previously had no idea that they were supporting PP...and now they are doing so again. Travesty.
Laura,
I don't know if this organization is pro-life but it was recommended to me as an alternative to Komen by a big time pro-lifer who walks the walk (takes in pregnant women to her home who are total strangers so the baby won't be aborted etc). Please check out the organization for yourself (I took my friend's word on it since I trust her but you should do your homework since it is your money). It is: Breast Cancer Preventation Institute Phone: 866-622-6237. It is in Somerville, NJ.
Thank you. Since I posted that note I have been doing a lot of online research and was dismayed to find out that there are very few
truly pro life cancer research charities out there. The organization names that are consistently mentioned as Pro life are the Breast Cancer Institute,
The Polycarp Research Institute, Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer, and Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer. The National Breast Cancer
Foundation has also been mentioned, but they do not post any information on their site about the abortion/breast cancer link and they are timid about
stating any pro-life agenda. What is interesting is that it is difficult ot find any information on the integrity of these organizations except for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and until I do, I might be hesitant to give. One website suggested an idea that could be implemented in any community - setting up a fund for low income women to receive cancer screening that could be used by local hospitals. I'm not sure how easy this task would be, but I'm looking into it. I've been asked by so many women to sponsor them in American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and given thid organization's disregard for the unborn (supporting Planned Parenthool, disregarding the abortion/breast cancer link and supporting embryonic stem cell research), I won't give up until I find a solid organization that I can donate to as an alternative.
