Some Numbers Are More Important Than a Score

Posted by Jim_Daly on Jan 16, 2012 2:11:29 PM

There wasn't a lot of celebrating Saturday night in our home state of Colorado, but there was definitely – as Luke 15:7 promises – "rejoicing in heaven." Our beloved Denver Broncos lost a heartbreaker to the New England Patriots, but that result is really inconsequential when souls are won for Christ.

And that's precisely what happened during the AFC Divisional Playoffs. How do we know? Because people told us.

They were responding to a 30-second commercial from Focus on the Family aired during the game. The spot, featuring children reciting John 3:16, had one simple purpose:  to share with the game's national TV audience – which numbered more than 33 million -- the meaning of that precious Scripture that is the essence of the Good News of Jesus Christ.

You probably heard that after Broncos quarterback and bold Christian Tim Tebow passed for 316 yards in his previous week's playoff upset over the Pittsburgh Steelers, there was a worldwide Internet scramble to find out what John 3:16, his favorite Bible verse, meant.

Knowing an estimated 100 million people had engaged their curiosity on the meaning of the passage, we whipped up an ad so fans wouldn't have to go look up the verse for Saturday's game. ("Whipped up," by the way, is the perfect description of the spot, which was conceived, cast, shot, produced and delivered to CBS in, give or take a few percentage points, about 3.16 days).

The commercial was broadcast a few minutes into the second quarter, during what the Nielsen Co. says was the half-hour time segment of the game with the highest ratings. What happened afterward was powerful evidence of Isaiah 55:11: God's Word does not come back void.

john-316-ad-small.jpg

Within minutes, "John 3:16" and "Focus on the Family" were among the hottest topics on the powerhouse social-media sites Facebook and Twitter (where former pro quarterback Kurt Warner was among those who shared it with his followers). On Google, both phrases were searched for by millions, with "Focus on the Family" remaining one of the Top 10 most-looked-up terms for nearly 24 hours. Our Web site, where the ad was (and still is) available to watch and share, received more than 8,000 visits per minute at its peak.

National news outlets like USA Today, The Washington Post and the Fox News Channel have reported on the ad. With pretty much every online story or blog written about it, the commercial itself has been imbedded, helping it "go viral," as they say in the world of cyberspace. By every measure commonly used to assess the effectiveness of an advertisement, it has been a runaway success.

But, for us, this was more than an advertisement. It was an investment -- in the Kingdom of God. And that investment has and, we pray, will continue to pay eternal benefits.

The overwhelmingly positive response to the ad, and the understanding of what its real meaning is, can be seen in this post from Facebook: "Did anyone see the commercial with the children quoting John 3:16. What a message to be seen by everyone watching the play-off game on CBS. That is where Christian dollars should be spent so people who are not saved (know) Christ died for them regardless of what they have done just that they accept Him and Believe!!! How Awesome and Amazing!!!!!!

Then there was the woman who left this comment on a blog when she stopped by to look around our Web site after seeing the spot: "Thanks for running the John 3:16 ad during the Broncos/Patriots game. My husband is not a believer, but he was so taken by those precious kids that he became emotional watching it. Thanks for reaching out in such a warm, compassionate way."

What touched us most, though, was this simple tweet from a man watching the game with his family: "Both my sons just saw your commercial and gave their lives to Christ as a result. Thank you. #John316"

You may think of Focus on the Family first and foremost as helping couples strengthen their marriages, raise happy, healthy children and engage the culture with biblical truth. Those are all important priorities for us, to be sure, and we're humbled and honored by the opportunities the Lord has given us for 35 years to help families thrive in these areas. But our overriding aim, as a Christian ministry, is to share the Gospel of Christ. Offering family advice is not enough. To make a real, everlasting difference, we have to introduce people to the Author of family.

We are so thankful the Lord has allowed us to augment the ways we do that every day with this commercial, and we pray it continues to reveal to those who see it that some numbers are more important than the ones on the scoreboard.

Focus on the Family,

Your John 3:16 ad was the most remarkable thing I have ever seen on television...and I am 65 years old.  So simple, joyful and profound.  God Bless You!

Jan 16, 2012 4:03 PM Guest Nancy T  says:
I watched the commercial along with my sister and brother-in-law.  It was beautifully produced and touched our hearts.  Kudos for bringing a positive message of salvation during the game!
Jan 16, 2012 6:00 PM Guest Chris L  says:
My husband was channel surfing when the commercial came up in the small box.  We were glued and couldn't believe our ears!!  On prime time TV, here was a commercial quoting John 3:16!  It was incredible... thank you for something so beautifully simple yet powerful... do it again...and again...etc.
Jan 16, 2012 6:13 PM Guest Kathleen  says:
Not really sure the ad was that effective.  My guess is that people don't really want preaching during football time; I heard a few folks mention it mostly to laugh about it.
Jan 16, 2012 7:16 PM Guest GospelJoe  says in response to Kathleen :

I couldn't believe it either....in this age of seperation of church and virtually everything....there it was on my TV screen.  What a nice ad with such a powerful message.  I think Tim Tebow has so much to do with this great national shift in public discussion right now.  Things are happening.  Just like the song "John 3:16" by Cindy Tucker.  I was made aware of a YouTube link of this touching tune that includes a pictoral of Tim Tebow.  John 3:16 is so simple yet so profound.   Thank you Focus on the Family and thank you Mr. Tebow for getting John 3:16 back in the mainstream.  God's blessings to us all.

Jan 16, 2012 8:29 PM Guest Leslie M.  says:
Amen!  SOLI DEO GLORIA!
Jan 16, 2012 11:20 PM Guest Charlene  says in response to Kathleen :

"Not really sure the ad was that  effective.  My guess is that people don't really want preaching during  football time; I heard a few folks mention it mostly to laugh about it."

People may not want preaching during football time, but that doesn't mean they don't need it. There are many people out there who've never been to church and have no idea that God loves them. John 3:16 tells a truth that most Christians take for granted, but it is something the world desperately needs to hear. If anyone, even just one person, came to be interested in learning about God as a result of that ad, then I would not only count it as effective, but I'd call it an enormous success, no matter how many people mocked it.

Jan 17, 2012 11:49 AM Guest Heather W.  says:
Thank you so much for spreading the good news effectively!  Three members of our family were in different areas of the house, but we all were drawn to the television when we heard those precious words.  It's sad to say, but we were in total shock that we were watching something so pure and holy on network television.  We are bombarded with so much garbage that doesn't even seem to phase us anymore.  It's bad when John 3:16 is the shocker that everyone is talking about!
Jan 17, 2012 6:26 PM Guest Marie  says in response to Kathleen :
If they were laughing then at least you know they heard it.  I'd bet they were touched in ways they don't want to admit because there is power in God's Word and it will not return without accomplishing what it was sent out to do.
Jan 17, 2012 7:44 PM Guest Cindy  says:
What a wonderful way to make people aware of God's love for them and to bring the word of God into the living rooms of our nation.  It was tasteful and compelling.- thank you for your witness.
Jan 18, 2012 6:34 AM Guest Janet  says:

We usually go to mute as soon as commercials come on.  We loved the commercial.  It was sweet, to the point, and God's Word will not return void.  I thought it was so well done so WELL DONE Focus on the Family.  I'm sure God is giving you a thumbs up.  :o)

Jan 18, 2012 7:00 AM Guest Greg W.  says:

Thanks for keeping the priorities where they always need to be!  What an awesome commercial that was certainly divinely inspired and brought together!  God bless in Christ!

Jan 18, 2012 1:22 PM Guest Katrina R  says:
My family and I were awed by the beautiful way Focus shared this scripture verse during prime time TV.  Loved the children and especially the little girl at the end that said, "Wow."  Thanks for doing a great job.
Jan 18, 2012 3:46 PM Guest Nancy W.  says:
We were riveted to the screen--phenomenal! To Him be the glory and may He uphold you with His right hand for taking a bold stand for Him!
Jan 18, 2012 3:52 PM Guest John C  says:

Although already a football fan, I intended on watching the game to see how Tim Tebow and the Broncos would fare against the mighty Patriots.  The outcome of the game didn't suprise me - but I was surprised to see the ad by Focus; I didn't see it coming.  As with all things FOTF does, I thought it was nicely done!

Jan 18, 2012 3:55 PM Guest Kathleen  says:
It was positively surprising, wonderful, and tremendously encouraging.  Way to go, Focus, for thinking creatively and for living courageously!
Jan 18, 2012 4:27 PM Guest Chery P.  says:
I was watching the game and doing other things, so I missed the ad, but have seen it since.  Awesome work!  Even though the Broncos lost, Tim Tebow shines his light as do the other Christian athletes.  It's nice for a change that the "good guys" are getting so much attention for their glorifying our Lord! I thought it good when James Borwn called Tebow a vessel!
Jan 18, 2012 4:00 PM Guest Linda  says:
Precious!
Jan 18, 2012 4:28 PM Guest Virginia B.  says:

I have loved Focus on the Family for over 30 years -- and never have I been so proud of Dr. Dobson and the things he's accomplished for our nation!  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the bold and yet simple and powerful commercial.  It made my heart sing!!

Jan 18, 2012 4:33 PM Guest M. Ross N.  says in response to Charlene:
I agree!
Jan 18, 2012 4:33 PM Guest Camilla S.  says:
I loved it! Praying for many to enter the Kingdom of God as the little children lead them! Powerful!!!!
Jan 18, 2012 4:33 PM Guest Iola  says:
I missed the commercial during the game, but when I heard about it I found it on the website and then reposted it to my FB account.  I think others did the same. You know the Lord uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.  Many in the world would call this verse foolishness, but God is using it in amazing ways to spread the gospel to many all around the world.  I love the way God loves to surprise us with fun things and get the glory all at the same time.  Jesus loves the little children and they were the very ones to proclaim his special message.  Yeah for FOTF.
Jan 18, 2012 4:15 PM Guest Mike C  says:
Please tell me you are going to air it again for the Super Bowl?!?
Jan 18, 2012 4:15 PM Guest Dave F  says:
I loved the commercial and approciate your doing this.  I'm sure there are probably a number of Christian organizations around the country who would like to do the same thing but can't afford it.  I would like to encourage FOTF to offer to pool resources from a number of organizations so there can be many more of these in the future.  Keep up the great work and may God bless you.
Jan 18, 2012 4:39 PM Guest D H.  says:

PLEASE AIR THIS COMMERCIAL DURING PRIME TIME TV EVERY NIGHT. LET ALL OF US K NOW AND WE CAN SEND EXTRA FUNDS.  THIS IS WAY OVERDUE AND SO, SOOOOO NEEDED.   ALSO, SHOW THE FAMILY UNIT IN PRAYER.

GOD BLESS YOU IN THE DAYS AHEAD AS WE FIGHT THE GOOD FGHT.

Jan 18, 2012 4:17 PM Guest Faye  says:

I do not like football, but am forced to hear it as my husband is a devoted fan! First, don't see the purpose of grown men hurting each other and getting paid too much money, Second, they don't show the bands during half-time, they just talk about what happend, why it shoudn't have, what should have been done, and what's about to happen or shouldn't happen!!!  The band is my favorite part!

However, when I heard the scripture, I immediately came to attention to view the commercial!!! IT WAS FANTASTIC!

Keep it up!  PLEASE!      Put this commercial up at other opportunites as well!

Jan 18, 2012 4:17 PM Guest Karen W  says:
AWESOME!!
Jan 18, 2012 4:18 PM Guest Gerry  says:

Brilliant! Thank you for sharing =)
Jan 18, 2012 5:20 PM Guest Jay M.  says:
I've watched this commercial between 5-10 times.  All I can say is:  WOW!
Jan 18, 2012 4:24 PM Guest Steve R  says:
Seeing that ad reinforced our commitment on financial support of Focus.  Perfectly done with children speaking on what is probably the first Bible verse we all learned.  For the people who laugh at ads like this and people like Tim Tebow and his personal commitment to Christ we can only pray that they will someday learn the real meaning of peace through Christ's love.
Jan 18, 2012 5:26 PM Guest David H.  says:
Out of the mouths of babes comes some interesting words - I will be going to Ghana in May for the same reason - to bring the word of God abd his Son to the people there.
Jan 18, 2012 5:33 PM Guest Police Sgt. and Chaplain W.  says:
I'm pretty sure Tim had something to do with paying for the spot.  Regardless, it was OUTSTANDING and I've shared it with those involved with my own international outreach.
Jan 18, 2012 5:33 PM Guest Ana  says:
I was watching the game and was pleasantly surprised when the commercial came on.  I could not believe it at first, but I thought this must be from Focus on the Family.  Whether people made fun of it or not, they got the message.  This commercial is way better than the other trashy commercials that are on TV.  Thank you Focus on the Family for the commercial. I am surprised that they let you air it during the game.
Jan 18, 2012 4:27 PM Guest Jayne C  says:
We appreciated see the the commercial on John 3:16.  We were surprised, but bless you for airing it.
Jan 18, 2012 4:30 PM Guest Sunny  says:
The John 3:16 ad was amazing!  I loved it!  It was tastefully done, to the point, and those children were precious!  Job very well done!  Wish the Broncos could have scored as well!!!
Jan 19, 2012 3:40 PM Guest Jeff T.  says:
Hope this doesn't come across wrong, but it's very rewarding as a father to be a part of such a wonderful spiritual outreach event,...knowing that this very ad / commercial was produced by my son, Joshua  of Coldwater Media, Colorado Springs.  Thank you Lord for this littel personal blessing.  For Him...
Jan 18, 2012 4:32 PM Guest Mark  says:
Awesome!
Jan 18, 2012 4:35 PM Guest L.G.  says in response to Kathleen :
Since when are commercials what we want?  If they are spoken about later, then they were effective.  You never know what seeds were planted in those people who laughed...  I think this was a powerful, yet simple message that was straight from the Word of God and in His Word is power!  Keep it up Focus on the Family.  You found yet another way to get people talking about our Lord.  Our group cheered when we saw it!
Jan 18, 2012 6:48 PM Guest Jonalee S.  says:
I was sooo blessed by the commercial.  I wasn't expecting it and when it came I wanted to cry for joy!!  Thank you!!
Jan 18, 2012 6:50 PM Guest Terri M.  says:

I loved it!!!  I never watch football, but with all of the talk about TimTibow I wanted to see him in action, imagine my surprise when I saw & heard Focus on the Family in action too! That was a PRICELESS moment and I am so glad you thought of it! Thanks!

Jan 18, 2012 4:38 PM Guest Linda G  says:
That is the best commercial ever, bar none.... I hope it gets to air again and again and again.....
Jan 18, 2012 6:50 PM Guest Jill F.  says:
This is remarkable...PLEASE run, rerun and run again - especially during primetime junk TV where the actors themselves are either in denial or ignorant to the truth and John 3:16 will bring them freedom forEVER.
Jan 18, 2012 4:38 PM Guest Cathy  says:

It was the best commerical I have ever seen.  Thank you!  I shared it on my Facebook page.  I hope others passed it on too.  God bless!!!

Jan 18, 2012 4:38 PM Guest SMB  says:
You just might have a future in advertising!
Jan 18, 2012 4:43 PM Guest Maryann  says in response to John C:
As a fan of the New England Patriots, I felt a little conflicted about cheering strongly for Tom Brady, while Tim Tebow, who truly appears to boldly live his faith, was losing... and losing so decidedly.  As it turned out, however, I was extremely pleased that my team won the game... AND, even more importantly, that God's Word was so beautifully rendered!  I made mention of the ad to my Pastor while leaving Sunday Mass.  He gave a big grin, chuckled and said how great it was!
Jan 18, 2012 4:44 PM Guest Joy P  says:
I was so excited when I saw the ad running during the game! Thanks again Focus on the Family for caring not only for families but for people's greatest need, a Savior!
Jan 18, 2012 4:44 PM Guest Sherry D.  says:
I'm assuming the part about making a donation is only on You Tube, not the original commercial, right?  'Cause the little girl saying wow is the perfect ending.  Praise God that you were able to purchase the spot!  That's a miracle!  What will the future of this country bring?  Let's never become disinterested or apathetic about sharing the Word or standing up for our freedom to do so.  Thank you for being obedient to God's call.
Jan 18, 2012 6:56 PM Guest Terri M.  says:

ha ha ha I just left a message and mis-spelled TEbow how funny, I guess you can certainly believe me when I say that I do not watch football (or much TV at all actually) I trust that when you look at my comment to approve it (or not) you will make a correction for me!

Thanks!!

Jan 18, 2012 4:48 PM Guest Carol G  says:
Well said!
Jan 18, 2012 4:50 PM Guest Holly  says:
Perfect . . . just perfect . . . and it made us laugh at the end . . . REALLY laugh a good laugh.
Jan 18, 2012 4:50 PM Guest paul  says in response to Jerome L:
I agree, powerful, simple commercial.  Its time we get more creative with poignant and scriptural messages through commercial broadcast.  No bottom line really except salvation, redemption, grace.  GOSPEL.  We need it.  All of creation is groaning for it, and will be, till completion!  Besides, if I have to watch another crap beer commercial...
Jan 18, 2012 7:09 PM Guest susanne m  says:
I have no idea how much it cost Focus on the Family to air that commercial, but whatever it cost, it was worth it to cause people to look up John 3:16 and even bring souls to Christ over Face Book and UTube.  Bravo to Focus for the conviction it took to buy this coveted spot to share John 3:16 with the world.  What Tim Teebow and Focus have done for the Kingdom is simply astounding.  Let the unbelievers make fun of Tim going down on one knee after a score to thank his precious Lord; let the sportscasters make fun of his religion and let those whose hearts were moved by your video open to God's love and forever be in the Kingdom.  Thank you Focus on the Family!
Jan 18, 2012 7:10 PM Guest Magdalena M.  says:
Great Job!!! Awesome clip. God Bless you!!!
Jan 18, 2012 4:55 PM Guest Anthony A  says:

"With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of His calling, and that by HIs power He may bring to fruition your every desire for good ness and your every deed prompted by faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

God was indeed glorified by your commercial

Jan 18, 2012 4:57 PM Guest Sonya  says:
I just watched it for the first time and it was amazingly sweet, simple and well said (of course it is in the Bible), and non confrontational. Yahoo news had a reporter who just blasted the commercial. After reading his comments first I was pleasantly surprised at the commercial. I support Focus on the Family and I would like to see more commercials like this. We need to be on the offense sometimes instead of the defense.
Jan 18, 2012 4:59 PM Guest Connie  says:
I can only assume you did a huge amount of research before running this.  The ad of itself is a precious & wonderful way to spread the Gospel. A pleasant surprise during the game. One thought here was the way the secularists will blast us for 'brainwashing'"young minds. But as always, kuddos to FOTF for the strong stand. What amazing numbers witnessed the spot!!
Jan 18, 2012 5:03 PM Guest Kathy  says:
I didn't watch the game, but just watched the commercial for the first time.  Wow!  What a simple, but amazing way to let the world know the meaning of John 3:16.  Thank you Focus on the Family for putting this great ad together.
Jan 18, 2012 7:12 PM Guest Delray S.  says:
I was blessed by the direct, straightforwardness of the unadulterated simplicity of the Word.
Jan 18, 2012 7:12 PM Guest sara v  says:
Wow--I was so thrilled to see that commercial. It was priceless and I hope it continues to win more souls to our Lord and Saviour. God bless you all at Focus on the Family   and Tim Tebow for his great faith and  whose total passes were 316 yards against the Steeler's (my home-town team whom I always cheer for and love--but I was cheering for both teams that night!) the week before in the play-offs ----which caused the ABC National news on Monday January 9 to recite John 3:16!!!!!!          Hope you air your John 3:16 commercial during the Super Bowl, too!!!!!!
Jan 18, 2012 5:09 PM Guest Laurel  says in response to Kathleen :

Isaiah 55:11 "so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."

God's word is sharper than a two edged sword. It is not for us to judge how effective it is, but to speak it and let God take care of the results. Many times when people laugh or mock it is because they are being convicted and are uncomfortable.

Jan 18, 2012 7:53 PM Guest B. L.  says:
Your ad on the football game of the season was fantastic. Keep it up.
Jan 18, 2012 5:12 PM Guest Terry  says:

The commercial, but more so the timing~during such a widely watched game~made my heart smile!  I hope other hearts smiled as well as curiosities peeked.  Yeah, Focus on The Family!!

Jan 18, 2012 5:12 PM Guest Cheryl  says:

Great job!!  I love it!

Jan 18, 2012 5:12 PM Guest Dean  says:
Loved it!  Well made..simple, yet effective. It showed the heart of what we should be about...the simple message of the reason why Jesus came!  Thanks for doing this!
Jan 18, 2012 7:54 PM Guest Beverly  says:
Fifteen family members had come to our home to celebrate my 70th. birthday, and of course we all were watching the game when your commercial came on! There was stunned silence in the room! We are all believers, but one of the families had given up watching television because of all the bad things we see these days on TV. We all rejoiced to see the John 3:16 commercial! Praise God for Focus on the Family and Tim Tebow....being bold for Christ!
Jan 18, 2012 5:15 PM tidefan1 tidefan1    says:
The commercial was absolutely beautiful.  At first I thought it was going to be some liberal media lies but was absolutely blown away with the kids and their zeal for speaking God's Word.  Thank you and God bless.
Jan 18, 2012 7:55 PM Guest Cheryl E.  says:
The last little girl says it best.....WOW!  How awesome!
Jan 18, 2012 5:19 PM Guest Karen C  says in response to Mike C:
I'm thinking if everyone here and across the nation who saw the commercial and enjoyed it and it's message donated $10 to Focus on the Family, they'd be able to run this several times AND make another new one as impactful.
Jan 18, 2012 5:24 PM Guest Lisa  says:
So happy to see the ad! And so happy to be able to pray for the work you are doing! May His Word continue to touch lives and bring in the harvest! Excellent use of resources! Thank you for letting Him use you!
Jan 18, 2012 5:25 PM Guest Sally  says:
I thought the commercial was great!  Using children to proclaim the message was a great idea. Now people know what John 3:16 says instead of just seeing the reference on a poster at a sports game. Thanks Focus for a job well done. To God Be the Glory!!!!
Jan 18, 2012 8:08 PM Guest veronica t.  says:

I only wish I had seen this commercial. How very refreshing such beautiful children. How could one not believe?

Thank you for airing this commercial. We need more commercials like this one.

Jan 18, 2012 5:32 PM Guest Barbara  says:

So beautiful to see God's Word broadcasted, while another "religious" group is using television and internet to toot it's own horn. Short, sweet and to the point. Man doesn't need religion. Man needs God. And the only way to God is through Jesus, His son. (Hope we see something as great during the Super Bowl, though it will take a miracle since all the ad space is supposedly sold.) Thank you!

Jan 18, 2012 8:09 PM Guest Marsha M.  says:
I didn't see it during the game, but watched it on fb the next day.  I was literally crying out loud with happiness and asking God,  "Are you happy, dear Lord?  Isn't this just fantastic?"
Jan 18, 2012 5:38 PM Guest Matt  says:

Watching the game live, it was electrifying when this most unexpected of commercials started rolling... I was mesemerized from the opening line to the final, delightful "Wow."  And then I couldn't stop smiling when "Focus on the Family" (that evil, hateful organization according to the mainstream media) popped up on the screen.  Although it's been clarified that this announcement was paid for out of a separate fund, I would gladly have my regular contributions used for outreach efforts like this.  Thank you!

But I'm curious -- the e-mail leading me to this post was entitled "The Commercial Some Don't Want You To See."  I wouldn't be surprised if the mere fact that FOTF sponsored the ad generated some controversy, but I didn't read anything about that in this post.  Has there been some pushback?  Or was that merely a provocative "attention getter" subject line to get people to read the message?  There was plenty of good news that could have been highlighted instead -- the fact that a man's two sons gave their lives to Christ is indeed a victory of eternal consequence!  Keep fighting the good fight, we're with you all the way.

Jan 18, 2012 8:11 PM Guest Wanda S.  says:
The message was perfect and needs to be heard, told, and cherished everywhere and at anytime. Thank You for standing in the truth. Yeah to the children!
Jan 18, 2012 5:42 PM Guest jenene  says:
i was in the other room but when i heard someone say john 3:16, i ran back to the t.v. with an open mouth and excited heart. such a blessing to see us loving God and fulfilling the Great Commission. great job fotf
Jan 18, 2012 8:12 PM Guest Dan B, Ed-D  says:

Absolutely Beautiful!!!!  Great job Focus!!!  Well done.  So glad to hear the stories of impact.  Very thankful for a young kid like Tebow!!!  I would love to have his Dad talk to my Moms and Dad's at the Christian School I run.  Powerful!!!  That is what the Body of Christ can do when we train our kids well and have a geniune love/walk with Jesus!

Thanks Focus for your history of faithfulness!  You make me think of I Chronicles 12:32 - Men of Isschar, who understood the times and knew what they should do!!!

Jan 18, 2012 8:13 PM Guest Jerri M.  says:
John 3:16 is my life verse and I am so happy that millions more people will know how much Jesus loves them and that many of them will come to salvation in the Living God.
Jan 18, 2012 5:50 PM Guest Sandra  says:

Only our God could orchestrate Tebow's 316' throw with the showing of FOTF's John 3:16 commercial.

Let everything that has breath praise our Lord!

Loved it. Told the blogger, who criticized it as being in "poor taste", his taste buds had failed &, if he wanted to censure commercials during football games, to censure them by getting rid of the beer commercials, as football is not about beer either. Hooray Focus On The Family!!!!
Jan 18, 2012 8:38 PM Guest Dave B.  says:
This was a great start!  As noted many times this ad has had and is having a large impact.  Now, to better reach the men, gather many well known Christian athletes from various sports as well as football and have them recite John 3:16 in a similar manner.  I believe the impact will be super!
Jan 18, 2012 8:38 PM Guest Sue C.  says:
Wow, that was great. Short, sweet and to the point. The most awesome, genuine and powerful commercial I've ever seen. It cut right to the core of the matter. Way to go FOF...way to go LORD!! Hoorah for our side! Can't wait to see next years commercial.
Jan 18, 2012 8:39 PM Guest Valerie R.  says:

This is exactly what we need on national t.v. and it's about time!  Especially b/c it's the way we can enter the home without invasion.  And to have "Family Focus" written as a further witness.  An amazing statement and image overall!

I wish more Christian's with the ability to design commercials or air christian movies would follow suit.  When we take the national airwaves for his glory, our nation will change!  Love must be preached!

Jan 18, 2012 6:10 PM Guest Trish  says:
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with this commercial, we loved it.  Precious children, wonderful message.  Thank you Focus!
Jan 18, 2012 8:40 PM Guest Valerie R.  says in response to GospelJoe:

Alas, perfect timing!

While there may be naysayers, God knows what He did through it and what it availed!  Perhaps revival in our nation is very close indeed!  Tim Tebow, Focus on the Family all making a difference.  Let's not quench the spirit of revival in our nation!

Jan 18, 2012 8:46 PM Guest Judy S.  says:
It was awesome!  I hope to see it again and again.  Keep up the good work. So beautiful to hear such an important message from all of those adorable kids.
Jan 18, 2012 6:20 PM Guest jennifer  says:
What a lovely presentation of the Gospel through those sweet children.  Such a message of hope to the hopeless and a refreshing message to the those of us who love Jesus.  I am so proud of you, Focus on the Family.  Don't back down.  Be strong and courageous!  And that little girl with the "Wow" at the end...a perfect ending!
Jan 18, 2012 6:21 PM Guest Janelle D  says:

My whole family loved seeing the commercial during the game! We love the positive message of God's good news, it sent into the millions of homes watching! Loved the commercial! I didn't see it when it came on, but my husband commented on how good it was, and I found it online. As church planters in Nebraska we recognize the importance for sharing the truth of the gospel by any and all means. Thank you!

Jan 18, 2012 8:54 PM Guest Norman M.  says:
That was a really nice commercial, percise and to the point. My prayer is that it will minister to the broken hearted and give them comfort in this broken world.
Jan 18, 2012 8:54 PM Guest Charlie D.  says in response to Kathleen :
Some people don't really want preaching during ANYTHING.  That's what the gospel does.  It sheds light on sin and causes one to reflect on their own inadequacies.  If they laugh at it, well, people have laughed at God for centuries.  The message is meant for those that will receive Christ as their Lord and Savior while there is still time.  For those that will not, no message will do.  Only judgement will cause the laughter to cease.  Sad, really.
Jan 18, 2012 8:55 PM Guest Nadine F.  says:
We were watching the game when the network went to commercial....what an awesome ad!!  Kudos to Focus on the Family!  Thank you!

Jan 18, 2012 6:52 PM Guest Tracey  says:

Great ad!  My church pastor always tells the kids at church that they should talk to adults about Jesus-people listen to cute little kids

The last girl with the last line summed it up perfectly--Wow!

Loved it!
Jan 18, 2012 9:05 PM Guest Jediah B.  says:

This commercial pleases me greatly. May God be glorified through it!

My acclaim to Focus for having the guts and vision to carry this out. I strongly approve.

Jan 18, 2012 7:00 PM Guest David  says:

I am FULLY supportive of the efforts of Focus on the Family.  Tim Tebow leads by example and his joy, strength, character and kindness likely lead others to Christ.  Had the commercial shown during the football game had adults from all walks of life (including other athletes, entertainers, professionals, blue collar workers, married couples, happy single adults), I believe the ad would have be FAR more effective.  To use young children is cute, but those we are not yet saved easily could see the "use" of children as just that, using young children who will parrott anything they are told to say.  Again, I am fully supportive of Focus on the Family, but found the commercial to be patronizing of the viewer and I dislike intensely any time very young children are told what to say when children that age just cannot fully comprehend that which they are saying or its significance.

Adults at peace, enthused, committed and saved reciting the same words, in my view, would have been so much more effective and, in terms of risk vs. benefit, would not hvae offended or turned off anyone, which the use of young children most certainly did.  Just food for thought that I hope will be considered and that I am not now the target of anger and hate (which would be very un-Christian-like).

Jan 18, 2012 7:05 PM Guest Rochelle  says in response to Kathleen :
Well Kathleen, Thank & Praise GOD that Focus on the Family did not go on your thoughts & your guesses.  Souls were saved, and many more will be, so, if your not sure, that's fine, GOD is, and He is reaching many, many souls.  Thank you Focus on the Family for using such an effective platform to be the hands & feet of Jesus.  Definitely will keep your ministry in prayer and support you as much as possible!
Jan 18, 2012 7:05 PM Guest Carol  says:
Praise and all  the Glory goes to God!  The prayers for our Nation are being answered, this is a true turning of the tide!  We thank you for being bold and strong enough to reach out and touch people with this very important message of Jesus! It is proven again that it is all in God's timing and he is in total and perfect control.
Jan 18, 2012 9:32 PM Guest Paul P.  says:
Well done Focus on the Family. Very simple, very direct, very powerful. It struck a chord in my heart.

Jan 18, 2012 9:51 PM Guest Chris T.  says:
My wife and I loved the Gospel presentation.  It was so well done.  Amzaing what God can do in just a few minutes.  John 3:16 has long been my favorite verse.
Jan 18, 2012 9:51 PM Guest Judy E.  says:

God smiled BIG!!!Thank you for sending "THE WORD" in an annointed way.

Jan 18, 2012 7:16 PM Guest HARRIETT  says:

THANK YOU FOR PRODUCING SUCH A  CLEAR, SIMPLE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL.   PLEASE DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

Jan 18, 2012 9:52 PM Guest JJ J.  says:
I love John 3:16, but I've been a believer for over 50 years, and I've a good understanding of what it means.  But to someone unfamiliar with Christianity, it's just hocus-pocus.  I know this because I've been explaining the Christian message to lost souls for decades.  Their response is invariably,"So . . . what's that got to do with me?"  That's a good question when sharing the message one-on-one, but it's a terrible message coming from a TV screen. I still liked it though - the kids are really cute!
Jan 18, 2012 7:19 PM Guest Diane  says:
So beautiful, so touching, so refreshing, so well-done, so true!!  Thank you for sending light into the darkness and planting the seed of truth.  Only eternity will tell how great an impact this one commercial will have.
Jan 18, 2012 7:23 PM Guest Joy  says:
I am a loyal listener of Focus on the Family.  I saw the commercial. You did an awesome. Job. It brought tears to my eyes! Truly a touchdown!
Jan 18, 2012 10:01 PM Guest Ruth V.  says:
I thought this commercial was _very well done_.  The children in the commercial were darlings and in their innocence they told a great truth.  I'm glad that John 3:16 was used as it is one of the verses in the Bible that is fairly well known, and delivered in such a nonjudgmental and gentle way.  I commend everyone that was involved in making this commercial.  If there wasn't an outcry from some people, we wouldn't know how effective the commercial really was. :-)  As Christians we need to keep everyone aware that there is one undeliable truth:  Jesus loves you and wants to take you home to your real home - Heaven.
Jan 18, 2012 10:01 PM Guest Lou L.  says:
Quoting scripture isn't preaching.  That was the best commercial I've ever seen!  Keep up the good work.   "and a little child shall lead them."Isaiah 11:7

Jan 18, 2012 7:35 PM Guest Anita  says:

After all the beer and Viagra commercials during a time when many young boys (and a few girls, too) are watching, it's a refrershing change of pace!

Jan 18, 2012 9:58 PM Guest Cassie  says:
We watched the game and when we heard the Word of God on our television from the mouths of precious children, my 6 children and I stared at the tv with our mouths open.  It was shocking and wonderful to hear it.  Thank you so much!!  It was beautiful and I want to see more from believers all over America!!!!
Jan 18, 2012 7:37 PM Guest Kathryn  says:
Thank you Focus on the Family for your faithfulness in sharing God's Word.  What an incredible opportunity you took advantage of to reach such a large audience.  May the Lord continue to bless your ministry.
Jan 18, 2012 9:59 PM Guest Gayle T.  says:
The 3:16 commercial was actually the only commercial I saw in the entire game; most of the game I spend in the kitchen working, running in to see any replays my husband knows I would enjoy. But I walked into the room just when this commercial was coming on and my husband had left the room, and I kept saying to him, "wow, you gotta see this, wow!!", and then at the end the precious little girl ending it with "wow", and feeling such pride to see Focus was the one supporting it. Thank you so very much. You have been such a wonderfully encouraging part of our lives...and you continue to be so.
Jan 18, 2012 10:00 PM Guest Mazie D.  says:
Your commercial was great ! Such a message to so many.God Bless You All

Jan 19, 2012 6:09 AM Guest Bob S  says:

Jan 19, 2012 6:10 AM Guest Krysty B  says:
That commercial was a breath of fresh air in the middle of that game.  I was literally left with my jaw-dropped and so blessed by the boldness of the perfect message.  THank you for that amazing investment and thank you for sharing some of the return on it...here's to seeing the rest on the other side!

Jan 18, 2012 8:11 PM Guest Tina  says:
We have young boys and they pretty much know the routine of - cover your eyes - for most commercials.  We were thrilled to see this one!!!  Thank you - and may the seeds that have been planted be watered and harvested.
Jan 19, 2012 6:26 AM Guest Debbie K  says:
WAY TO GO, FOCUS ON THE FAMILY! Your John 3:16 ad was absolutely darling and extremely moving! I am so impressed that you were on the ball to see the opportunity and willing to scramble to seize it!  And you did a great job in the process!  Thanks for your ministry to families and the lost!

Jan 19, 2012 6:20 AM Guest Kay M.  says:
That commercial was  sooooooooooooooooooooooooo wonderful.  I was in the kitchen getting supper and the game was on and my husband yelled at me and said look at this commercial.  It brought tears to my eyes.  I was just so uplifted to hear that on CBS.  Thank you Focus on the Family that was just great.  Praise God!!!  What good timing.  How did you manage to get that on??  What a wonderful verse.  Very moving.  Thank you again.
Jan 19, 2012 6:20 AM Guest Edwin H.  says:

Jan 18, 2012 9:51 PM Guest Tania  says:
Just the week before this ad, co-workers were talking about Tim Tebow and someone holding a John 3:16 sign.  "What does that verse say in the Bible anyway?" someone asked.  I responded that I knew and proceeded to tell them.  I couldn't believe I was quoting scripture to 7 or 8 co-workers!  Afterwards, I thought how sad that so many people did not know that verse and probably didn't really understand it.  The next week when I saw this ad, my heart rejoiced that here again it was!  I know those people were watching the game and saw it.  Precious little children explained it in a way I could never have.  God is so good and Focus on the Family is awesome for doing this!
Jan 18, 2012 9:58 PM Guest michelle  says:

Commercial was very well-done.

Just right!!

And GOD's precious message was shared yet again.

Special praise to GOD.

And special Love to the world.

Many blessing of Jesus Himself to the FOTF and commercial team!

Jan 18, 2012 10:05 PM Guest Kathy  says:

Home run FOTF! Oh, wait - wrong sport...TOUCHDOWN!  I rarely forward anything to my siblings (both Christian and non-believers), but I sent this link to them all.

Thank you for reminding us how simple the message is.

Jan 18, 2012 10:11 PM Guest Rachel  says in response to David:

True.  But, can any of us, at any age, fully comprehend its significance?  For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. (I Cor. 13:12)

Children have a unique view of the world and in my experience, often see things much more clearly than adults.  We tend to try to package things so as not to offend, or to look good, or to convince ourselves that something makes sense when it really doesn't, or .... (fill in the blank)

...whereas children often just see it (and tell it!) like it is.  My friend and I who were watching the game were completely shocked (in a good way!) and very blessed by this commercial.  It's so refreshing to see God's Truth right there in a place where it is usually absent.  I pray that this will continue to be used mightily by God for His glory and His kingdom!

Jan 18, 2012 10:15 PM Guest Kurt A.  says:

Mr. Daly I was very heartened by the commercial and your comment,

"But our overriding aim, as a Christian ministry, is to share the Gospel of Christ. Offering family advice is not enough. To make a real, everlasting difference, we have to introduce people to the Author of family"

Well done!

P.S.  Also a big thanks to Tim Tebow for his consistent testimony and helping to set the stage for this by getting people curious about John 3:16.

Plant the seed and let the Lord bring the increase.

Jan 18, 2012 10:25 PM Guest Carrie L  says:
I love that commercial; it is so awesome!!!!  Thanks for all you do FOTF!!!
Jan 19, 2012 6:13 AM Guest Mary Lou P.  says:
My husband and I couldn't believe our eyes and ears to hear God's word being told during a commercial break.  We thought it was so fantastic.  That might be the only time some of the people ever heard John 3:16.  I hope you will do it again.  Our country and it's people need to hear quotes from the Bible.
Jan 18, 2012 10:28 PM Guest Jocelyn  says:
Awesome commercial!  It was very professional, very well done and told the simple truth in a nutshell.  Every word was heard.  Praise the Lord for His simple message of awesome grace.  Thank you so much for putting together such a high quality presentation.
Jan 18, 2012 10:49 PM Guest Josh  says in response to Kathleen :

According to God's Word (Isaiah 55:10-11 in particular), the commercial was a TREMENDOUS success....and the incredible testimonies that we're hearing after the fact only give further evidence that this is true!  Kathleen, I'm sure sorry to hear that the "few folks" you heard discussing the commercial were actually laughing about it (and I trust that you had enough wisdom and maturity to not join in with them), but truly, that says far more about those people than it does about the commercial itself.

The commercial was nothing more than a very simple presentation of a life-changing biblical truth, expressed to us through the delightful personalities of children.  There was no "preaching" involved.  In fact, the gospel really doesn't get any "less threatening" or "more simple" than that.  You mentioned that "people don't really want preaching during football time...", but that kind of illustrates the problem, doesn't it?  So many people would rather spend two or three hours watching guys in tights tackle each other than they would hear a 30-second presentation declaring that the Creator of heaven and earth loves them and desires to have a personal relationship with them.

When your friends reach the end of their earthly lives - or when the Lord returns - I feel certain that football games won't seem quite so significant to them anymore.  If I were you, I'd definitely be praying for your friends to have their eyes opened to the truth of God's love now - while they're still able to respond to it.  This life is so very short, and eternity is so long.  It's fine to be entertained for a few minutes here and there by the games or movies that we enjoy, but it's far more important to make sure that we're right with God.  I sure hope (as I'm sure that you do) that your friends will realize this and turn their hearts completely toward him before it's too late.

Regardless, God clearly used this brief commercial to change people's lives - and he seems to be continuing to do so!  So, thank you, Focus on the Family, for producing this fantastic commercial, and for arranging to have it aired at an ideal time so that many people might see it and hear the truth.  It's truly remarkable to hear how God orchestrated all of this, and it will be a joy to see how the fruit of this brief effort continues to linger...long after the games have ended.

Jan 18, 2012 11:28 PM Guest Joel  says:
Awesome idea.  Great commercial. God blessed.
Jan 19, 2012 6:26 AM Guest Robert M.  says:

Jan 19, 2012 5:07 AM Guest Jeanne  says:
Our family's activities screeched to a halt during the commercial. Our teen daughter then went back to facebook, and a minute later, called me in.  A male Christian friend had posted about seeing the commercial, and the moment she replied, the ads on the right side of her screen changed from random teen-related items to ALL Christian-related.  How's that for changing Social Networking? Well done, especially in choosing to be sure that the group was mult-racial!
Jan 19, 2012 5:09 AM Guest Tammy  says:

So cute!  So deep!  So real!  So eternal!  WOW!  Great message @ a key TV spot...imagine that!  Maybe a future Super Bowl commercial as well?

Jan 19, 2012 6:14 AM Guest Russell E.  says:
Love the commercial but Jesus was not just is only son but the KJV says it more complete and that is that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the God the Father. There is a BIG difference!
Jan 19, 2012 5:18 AM Guest Karen  says:
There is nothing more beautiful than to see children quoting this scripture!  Thank you for this.  One of the most thought provoking quotes I've seen lately is, 'if you believe there is no God, you'd better be right.'. Praise our Lord for your doing what you do.
Jan 19, 2012 6:46 AM Guest christine t  says:
I just wish that after the kids said "His only son"..... that one of them would have said the name..... Jesus.
Jan 19, 2012 6:42 AM Guest Judylee  says:
Beautiful!    I was so surprised to see this commercial during the game.  What a great way to spread the truth of salvation.  The children were all so adorable too!
Jan 19, 2012 6:42 AM Guest Chris K  says:

John 3:16.....From a believer in East Texas...

You did good! Real good!

Jan 19, 2012 5:41 AM Guest Jim M.  says in response to Kathleen :

What a sad reply!

I would rather live my life as if there is a God than and die to find there isn't than to live my life as if there isn.t  and find out there is.

Nicely Done Focus on the Family!

Jan 19, 2012 5:46 AM Guest Susan S.  says:
My husband and I were so pleasantly surprised when your John 3:16 commercial came on.  There is something so simple and sweet when children read scripture. It was so well done!  We loved it and have shown it to numerous people via your website.  Thanks and please keep it up!
Jan 19, 2012 5:53 AM Guest Fran  says:
What a blessing and an awesome commercial.  I loved it.  My husband and I stopped talking and just watched in awe.  Thank you so much for being able to put it on.  I have been following FOTF for many years, my kids knew who Dr. Dobson was as I read Family Walk to them at breakfast each morning.  Love you all very much and Praise God that whoever needed to hear the message from the children, probably did and it will grow like a mustard seed.  Powerful, loving and cute at the same time.
Jan 19, 2012 5:57 AM Guest Erin  says:
As a former resident of Denver, I was never a fan of the Broncos--until Tebow. I, like many evangelicals, have found his openness about his faith to be a breath of fresh air. This commercial was a very pleasant surprise and was a perfect complement to Tebow's own testimony. It was a welcome relief from the onslaught of male disfunction and alcohol ads. Thank you for airing it!
Jan 19, 2012 6:00 AM Guest Tabitha  says:

Jan 19, 2012 6:48 AM Guest Lisa  says:
Touchdown! in God's book of life. What a way to see the body of Christ work together for the common goal of winning souls for Christ. $ spent well!
Jan 19, 2012 6:06 AM Guest Christine  says in response to Kathleen :
I understand what you are saying, Kathleen, but just remember, God's Word never returns void.  So although they may have mocked it, a seed was sown.
Jan 19, 2012 6:49 AM Guest Ann A  says:
Our family (we're from New England) spent this last weekend in Ohio. Saturday evening we sat down at the hotel to watch the football game.  Wow! what a wonderful surprise to see such a plain spoken, advertisment for the gospel.  We loved the production.  It was awesome to see it fit right into the flow, but BOLDLY proclaim the TRUTH.  Focus on the Family never ceases to amaze us, well done. We pray many are touched by this mainstream gospel.
Jan 19, 2012 6:33 AM Guest Jordan  says:
My husband and I simultaneously perked up when we heard the beginning words of the commercial, and I was speechless during the entire 30 seconds.  It was beautiful, touching, classy, and professional.  Thank you, THANK YOU for broadcasting it, especially during such a publicized game!
Jan 19, 2012 6:51 AM Guest Laura W  says:

The commercial was amazing! I was blown away that the network would air a commercial so obviously Christian. Thank you for doing this commercial and telling the world about our Savior.

Jan 19, 2012 6:51 AM Guest Joni S  says:
I saw the commercial during the game and was so deeply touched by the children reciting John 3:16!  What better way to spread God's word than using precious children to send His message to all and during a football with the outstanding young man, Tim Tebow!  He was the reason I even watched the game!  Thank you Focus on the Family for all you do!
Jan 19, 2012 6:52 AM Guest Marci W  says:
Loved your ad.  Thanks for all you do.
Jan 19, 2012 6:40 AM Guest Delia  says:

Wonderful, God bless all those involved with putting that together.  My husband and I were rivited to the television like it was the first time we've ever seen one - I don't think we even blinked until it was over.  Keep it up, we are proud to support "Focus on the Family" efforts.

Jan 19, 2012 6:45 AM Guest K.J.  says:

I loved the John 3:16 "commercial"! No politics, no hyping a fallen human being, just God's truth.

Jan 19, 2012 6:46 AM Guest Brian W  says:
I am so thankful that God has given me eyes to see and ears to hear Him and the ability to watch with wonder as He guides my life.  I pray this and more for all.
Jan 19, 2012 6:49 AM Guest Debbie  says:
I loved the commercial!  Thank you for using wisdom to capitalize on Tim Tebow's 3:16 numbers from the game before to show all of us who watched what 3:16 is all about.  The children were adorable - great idea to use kids - and the last little girl with the "Wow!" clinched it in a really effective way.  Kudos to all who produced the spot.  Way to be creative with the Gospel message!
Jan 19, 2012 7:03 AM Guest JOYCE C  says:

It was the best commercial I've seen on TV ever.  It was something everyone should know and what a way to show the love of Christ.  It was absolutley AWESOME!!!!!!!  We've been involved with Focus for some time and we pray God's blessings on your entire organization.

Jan 19, 2012 7:05 AM Guest Pat  says:
The very fact that any ball game is mentioned in the same sentence as "heartbreaker" says something profound about where hearts really are.
Jan 19, 2012 7:08 AM Guest Shauna J  says:
The commercial was AWESOME! I was speechless when I heard it come on during the game as were several of my friends. We just stared at the screen in awe that God's word was being read in the most receptive way. BRILLIANT! Who can resist children saying such beautiful words. Thank you for bringing the message to the masses. You guys are incredible!
Jan 19, 2012 7:10 AM Guest Veronica  says:
Thank you for the time took and the money you spent to get the word of Jesus out!  What a wonderful opportunity that you took advantage of for His glory!  I pray that more of us will step out in His name and reach out to those that may not know Him.  Afterall, that is what we are all called to do - to share His love with others!
Jan 19, 2012 7:22 AM Guest Robin  says:
We were sitting watching games and playing cards at the same time.  When the commercial came on, we all swung around to see if these words were really on TV!!!!!  We were so EXCITED to see this wonderful commercial!  Thanks be to GOD!!!!  His word will not return void!
Jan 19, 2012 7:24 AM Guest Karen  says in response to Kathleen :
That is too bad.  It was a wonderful advertisement.
Jan 19, 2012 7:26 AM Guest Rolf  says:
Our family so appreciates being able to view such an uplifting message presented by such humble and beautiful souls!!!!! Thank you for sharing the gospel with so many in such a heart-touching way!!!!!
Jan 19, 2012 7:30 AM Guest Marty R.  says:

What a blessing to see a true roll model for this generation! A young man of 24 who is willing to speak the truth in love and understands Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

We as believers need to keep Tim Tebow in our prayers to ask God to protect him! There are many who would like to see tim fail including the enemy of us all satin.

There were many winners even though the Broncos did not score more points then the Pats they too won!

Marty R.

Jan 19, 2012 7:39 AM Guest Rick B  says:

Jan 19, 2012 7:34 AM Guest Jenny  says:

Simple, beautiful presentation of the gospel. Perfectly timed. Money well spent
Jan 19, 2012 7:47 AM Guest Jean  says:
I thought the commercial was awesome and beautiful.  It was straight and to the point and the kids were beautiful.  You planted the seed in many football fans this year.  It's only going to get better.
Jan 19, 2012 7:53 AM Guest John R  says:
Excellent!  The right message.
Jan 19, 2012 7:50 AM Guest Scott B  says:
The 15 or so people at my house thought it was a phenominal commercial,  It was well done, well placed and it caused the whole "noisy" New England Patriots fan filled room room to stop and be quiet until it was done.   Great Job Focus on the Family and Praise God!
Jan 19, 2012 7:55 AM Guest Lowell and Myrna R  says:
What a joyous message from kids.  So glad it was aired.  We didn't see it as we didn't watch the game, but it had to touch hearts and lives.  Best ad ever!
Jan 19, 2012 7:51 AM Guest Becky  says:
Absolutely awesome commercial!!!!
Jan 19, 2012 10:22 AM Guest Dorcy H  says:
I loved it! I couldn't believe it when I heard it and thought someone changed the channel? Hearing those words on a national network was great!
Jan 19, 2012 8:04 AM Guest Robin  says:
I did not get to watch the game, but I watched the commercial via the email from Focus. What an annointed 30 seconds. It is amazing what God can do in such a short time. Well done Focus! Simple, pure, honest, and life changing. Thank you!
Jan 19, 2012 8:06 AM Guest Don  says:
Fantastic presentation of the Truth of our Lord Jesus Christ. God bless Focus on the Family and God bless Tim Tebow!
Jan 19, 2012 8:08 AM Guest Janet B  says:
I just love watching children quote the Bible....Beautiful!!!!
Jan 19, 2012 10:35 AM Guest mary Jo P.  says:

Wonderful commercial.....children will reach adults better than most adults.

People may joke about the commercial when they see it, but it wil touch many hearts.

Thank you.

Jan 19, 2012 8:27 AM Guest robin s  says:
woowho!
Jan 19, 2012 8:29 AM Guest Cathy  says:
Just wonderful!!  So short but powerful.  TRUTH PROCLAIMED-  PRAISE THE LORD!!!
Jan 19, 2012 8:31 AM Guest Shelley  says:
This scripture is one that gets referenced alot, including at sports events. (There used to always be people with John 3:16 signs at lots of NFL games, if my memory serves.) And probably many people can quote it, even if they don't go to church. It's almost become ubiquitous. For that reason, John 3:16 has seemed like a scripture that doesn't pack the kind of power that such an incredible message should have. However, using kids to express and explain the simple beauty of it really gave it a fresh voice and maybe got some people to actually "hear" it with their hearts rather than just repeat the words in a trite or meaningless fashion. And I LOVE that the commercial ended with that little "wow!" It really sums it all up. Such a message truly deserves a "wow!" but it's easy to forget that sometimes. Incredible job FOTF! And thank you!
Jan 19, 2012 8:37 AM Guest Letitia  says:
God's word will never come back void. This is his word...powerful, effective! Praise God!! Now lets stand back and see what God will do to honor faithfulness.  Good job Focus on the Family!! <3
Jan 19, 2012 8:52 AM Guest Kim  says:
Thank you! Thank you! God's ways are so much bigger than our ways.  I am happy to hear the response Focus on the Family has received by airing this ad.  Even though children were used in the commercial, it just goes to show everyone how having a childlike faith will procude great things in our lives.  Love the Lord your God with all your heart!  I have been a supporter for many years and I am happy that you had the opportunity to prepare and show such a great message.
Jan 19, 2012 8:55 AM Guest Josel  says:

The word of God is powerful and the Holy Spirit speaks into our lives when we are willing to listen. Those that 'laughed' or 'mocked' did so because they have hardened their hearts. This should come as no surprise to Gods children. Jesus said “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” We do not need to worry about what others think – as Tim Tebow himself so courageously displays in his actions and words when he is mocked every week – the only One we need to worry about is our Lord Jesus and what pleases Him. Soli deo Gloria!

Jan 19, 2012 10:54 AM Guest Liz C.  says:
I loved it and yes it touched my heart - loved the little girl at the very end saying, "wow!"  I shared it on my facebook!
Jan 19, 2012 10:57 AM Guest Liz C.  says in response to Kathleen :
That's ok - Christians don't take offense!
Jan 19, 2012 9:00 AM Guest Mayda  says:
I am SO VERY THANKFUL for Focus On The Family.....for the insight in bringing John 3:16 to such a wide audience.  I have been a supporter and will continue.  May our God RICHLY BLESS YOU with souls for the kingdom!
Jan 19, 2012 10:58 AM Guest Liz C.  says in response to Mike C:
Yes, that would be a major accomplishment but you'll need ALOT of donations to cover the cost!
Jan 19, 2012 9:03 AM Guest Jacque  says:
What do I think?  I'm increasing my monthly giving to Focus on the Family by 67% right now because of this.  Some may wonder if a 30 second commercial can have that much affect.  Why do so many sponsors pays such big bucks for 30 second commercials?  Because they are affective.  Obviously for the Web hits, it at least made people stop and think or question.  Thank you Focus on the Family for being that light to help lead people in the right direction for answers.
Jan 19, 2012 11:08 AM Guest Gloria M.  says:

After watching the commercial my thoughts and emotions were as passionate as they've ever been thinking:  ONE GIANT STEP FOR MAN, ONE GIANT LEAP OF FAITH FOR MANKIND!  I wish we could put it on shirts and other items to remind us all that anything IS possible!  I called and wrote to CBS and you to thank everyone for an incredible job well done!  I had my Sunday school class do it too, they were amazing and happy to be a part of spreading the word!

Thank you all...good and faithful servants!

Jan 19, 2012 11:09 AM Guest Chris K.  says:
Bless you, bless you at Focus on the family. It is truly wonderful to stand with you.
Jan 19, 2012 11:19 AM Guest Jim B.  says:
WOW! So simple, so effective
Jan 19, 2012 10:10 AM Guest Mark  says:
I love this  format.
". . . and a little  child shall lead them." -- Isaiah 11:6
And be assured,  "This is a Commercial  Many Want You to See."
Jan 19, 2012 11:21 AM Guest Tom P.  says:

Simply Beautiful!  What a wonderful way to bring God's life saving message to so many!  Praises to all at FOTF for sharing the Truth, for unless we all become like little children, (having faith:)

It's impossible to see the Kingdom of Heaven.  Perfectly presented!

Jan 19, 2012 11:23 AM Guest Yolanda  says:
From the mouth of Babes "Focused"
Jan 19, 2012 10:22 AM Guest MJ  says in response to Kathleen :
so you would rather people not know that God loves them???  I hope you read the testimonies above.  Looks like it was effective even if it was only for a few.
Jan 19, 2012 10:35 AM Guest LuAnn  says:
AWESOME!  Buy MORE airtime!!!! Praise the Lord
Jan 19, 2012 11:31 AM Guest Amanda  says:
It's truly amazing how such a "short and simple" message can be so powerful! It goes to show that nothing we do for Christ will be in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:58) Way to go, Focus on the Family! Praise the Lord!
Jan 19, 2012 11:33 AM Guest Anita L.  says:
My husband and I were delighted by the John 3:16 commercial, which was so beautifully and charmingly done. Then to see that Focus on the Family sponsored it delighted us even more because we have supported Focus and benefited immensely from it as a family for many, many years. May there be more commercials like this one!
Jan 19, 2012 11:35 AM Guest Bennie F.  says:

Praise the Lord!!! at long last... a commercial/message worth seeing on 'national' television...we need to have more of this on tv ... and hopefully & prayerfully, in movie houses?... IN GOD, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!!!!!

Jan 19, 2012 11:30 AM Guest Charlene  says:
The commercial was Fantastic!!! I have worked with children for nearly 20 years. I am a firm believer of the frase "Out of the mouths of babes". These children have made life changing impacts, that will reach the world. It is our right as American Citizens to be able to express ourselves and our beliefs. When we give up that right we have, in my opinion, disgraced everyone who has fought, bled and died to ensure we have that right. God directs us to share his word. I loved it.
Jan 19, 2012 11:50 AM Guest Scott H.  says:
Gets people's attention! let this start a Revival!
Jan 19, 2012 11:57 AM Guest Kay  says:
This commerical is absolutely beautiful.  The presentation by the children is remarkable. VERY WELL DONE!!
Jan 19, 2012 12:11 PM Guest Barbara S.  says:
So greatful for your undying quest for furthering the Lord.  Our thought was to rethink having only children speaking these truths, if you do something like this again.  Our "grown up" culture think they can live with out Christ, maybe Jesus is for sissies & children, a cute thing, rather than a heavy duty truth.  Just a thought, many thanks for all you do.
Jan 19, 2012 12:06 PM Guest Teri  says:
It was WONDERFUL!!! Our pastor thought so too and showed it in church on Sunday!
Jan 19, 2012 12:10 PM Guest Rebecca  says in response to Cathy:
Well done!
Jan 19, 2012 12:27 PM Guest Karen  says:

I think that it was an awesome way to share the "Good News" and the response was fantastic.  Keep up the good work.

Jan 19, 2012 12:43 PM Guest Edward  says:
Now,THAT was an INFO-mercial to cure all disfunction! "Play it again", Jim. Am sending a contribution to help!
Jan 19, 2012 1:24 PM Guest jerry  says:

Will we see more commercials like this from focus on the family?  This one was awesome!

Jan 19, 2012 1:41 PM Guest Brenda B  says:
I watched in wonder as these beautiful, talented children  recited John 3:16.  How could anyone much deny these obviously talented children the opportunity to do this!  Praise God for this!  I would like to see more.  I can see the ACLU all over this.  Let them do it.  How great to see children do this instead of some of the secular dance routines that you mostly see them do.
Jan 19, 2012 1:54 PM Guest Sharon  says:
Great commercial, we need more like it, please keep 'em coming!!
Jan 19, 2012 2:12 PM Guest Ryan  says in response to Kathleen :

whether the seed of truth takes root is up to the soil (people) if you heard people mentioning the ad and laughing...it means they heard and listened to the truth.

Jan 19, 2012 2:29 PM Guest Cindy  says:
Praise God for this commercial !! It should be run on every major event on every channel !!
Jan 19, 2012 2:47 PM Guest Robert D  says:
It was a true blessing to see the commercial.  God is awesome, and He loves all of us uncondionally.  Thank you so much for furthering the kingdom of God.  God Bless.  P.S.  Just to ad another comment, our Government needs to bring God back into our Nation, in order to make the right decisions for this country and also for the rest of the world.  Have a Blessed Day
Jan 19, 2012 3:02 PM Guest Pattar E  says:
Loved your commercial.  We are so blessed to be able to help support Focus on the Family in the work you are doing,  challenging our culture and being on the offensive, without being offensive.  Beautiful!
Jan 19, 2012 3:11 PM Guest Shelby  says:

Thank You, Focus, for using my donations for such a worthy cause.  I am impressed with the simplicity yet powerful message in the John 3:16 commerical.  Keep up the good work and God Bless You!

Jan 19, 2012 3:30 PM Guest Chris J  says:
First, I applaud FOTF for being so bold during Prime Time Television viewing.  And, I love the John 3:16 message as one for the whole world.  But, for non-believers, I think THEY think we indoctrinate our children with the message of Christ's love (they're wrong of course).  Therefore, adults, especially YOUNG adults, might have been more effective to share the message, with a two word testimony.   i.e.  Loved?  Loved.
Jan 19, 2012 3:50 PM Guest Debbie R  says:
Thank you and God bless you at Focus on the Family for your quick actions and huge hearts! You have been a huge blessing to me as we raised our children and now it does my heart so much good to see you reach out as you did in that delightful, heart warming commercial. Way to go! Praise God for His unconditional love and grace; something I still can not fully take in. Bless you all.
Jan 19, 2012 3:55 PM Guest Shannon  says:

My husband, my 2 boys, & myself were watching the game & the John 3:16 ad came on.  We were awed--the room became silent (which is quite a feat for 2 young boys)!  That was one of the most wonderful things I've ever seen on TV!  Thanks Focus on the Family!

Jan 19, 2012 3:59 PM Guest Chris M.  says:
We LOVED the commercial, and we're so amazed that you were able to put that on. THANKYOU for getting the message out-very refreshing and wonderful to see.
Jan 19, 2012 4:35 PM Guest John  says in response to Shannon:
Thank you so much!  That is the most profound, well done ad that we have ever seen!  We are so proud to have been your long-time supporters for all of these years.  Again thank you so much!
Jan 19, 2012 4:53 PM Guest Robert  says:
Thank you for representing God's family so well.  My wife and I were so glad to see "Focus On The Family" at the end of the commercial instead of a group that commonly misrepresents God's Word.
Jan 19, 2012 5:00 PM Guest B Shook  says:
I LOVE this commercial!!! Thank you so much!!!  Sometimes it only takes something so simple to reach people.
Jan 19, 2012 5:08 PM Guest Steve  says:
Outstanding.  How can it be that such a simple message, in any language, brings tears to the eyes of people around the world?
Jan 19, 2012 6:08 PM Guest Bill  says in response to Steve:

In the early days of the Reagan rebellion, all faith-talk had been wiped from the TV schedule by the powerful secularist movement, except to ridicule preachers.  The first appearance of Jesus' name had to be slipped in as a curseword.  Within months, a TV series had appeared about an Amish family displaced in California.  That series helped to turn the tide.

We are struggling with the secularists for control of a powerful propaganda tool.  We are struggling for the minds and hearts of each new generation.  It is a political struggle, and it is an expensive struggle, and it's a lot of hard work.

Jan 19, 2012 6:23 PM Guest nancy  says:
We are a little late in responding to your email, apologizes.  the commercial was great!  keep it up
Jan 19, 2012 6:44 PM Guest David  says:
Beautiful -- the best kept secret of the church. Boldly proclaim the truth, and trust that God' word will not return empty (Is 55:10-11)
Jan 19, 2012 8:58 PM Guest connie m.  says:
GOD will always be here no matter what. Great commercial
Jan 19, 2012 9:29 PM Guest Susan  says:
Wow! I loved that commercial. So heartfelt, so purely wonderful!
Jan 20, 2012 6:05 AM Guest Sharon T  says in response to Ana :
It was God who made it possible.  He is still on the throne.
Jan 20, 2012 3:45 AM Guest Angie  says:
My husband and I went to his company dinner and one of his co-workers brought up Tim Tebow and how his mom was told to abort him, but she didn't. This brought up more conversation about Christ. I'm sure they saw this commercial too. You never know who is seeking! Thanks for running the commercial.
Jan 20, 2012 5:26 AM Guest Becky  says:
Precious....so simple yet so profound.
Jan 20, 2012 6:07 AM Guest Janet  says:
Thank you for pursuing the lost.  Children always touch our hearts!!!!!!!
Jan 20, 2012 7:08 AM Guest Donna  says:
I have so often wondered why we don't see more Christian messages on mainstream TV. I realize it is expensive, but it is such a powerful tool for getting the Message of Christ's redemptive love out there. To simply introduce TV viewers to God's Word in this manner is wonderful. I hope Focus on the Family  just started something that other Christian organizations will embrace. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Jan 20, 2012 7:36 AM Guest Cortney  says:
What a great way to reach an audience that may never set foot in a church.  Well done!  I am looking forward to what God inspires next...
Jan 20, 2012 7:51 AM Guest Lynn  says:
I saw the commercial and watched with my mouth wide open.  I was in awe that it was on at that time and on regular TV.  I was blown away.  My husband and I looked at each other and I said WOW before the child did at the end.  I'm so thankful Focus on the Family did this!!  Praise God for the lives changed.
Jan 20, 2012 7:56 AM Guest PJ  says:
Was surprised to see the commercial but filled with utter joy that so many people would hear the gospel.  Praise God for His abundant love for everyone.....even the Patriots
Jan 20, 2012 9:07 AM Guest Barbara  says:
I saw the commercial as it was aired during the ball game.  I was shocked that it was actually allowed.  This was one of the most impressive commercials that I have seen during a ball game or any other time.  I have always been grateful for the ministry of Focus on the Family.  This commercial just shows how God has even greater vision for you.
Jan 20, 2012 9:37 AM Guest Jeanne  says:
I just saw your commercial and thought it was tremendous.  To the person who said this wsa not appropriate for a football game let me leave you with this thought.  Tim Tebow plays football and also testifies to John 3:16 so if he can do this, why can't we all accept his testimony and spread God's Word through football games, television, etc. and all the ways of communication we have these days?
Jan 20, 2012 11:00 AM Guest Laura  says:
Being from Colorado, my parents are die-hard Broncos and Tim Tebow fans, so while watching the game we were blown away to see the beautiful commercial. Thank you for spreading the message of God's love and salvation to such a huge audience, and in such a touching way! AWESOME job!!
Jan 20, 2012 12:31 PM Guest Nellie T.  says:

Hubby and I thought it was great...........perfect timing!

and we thought having children do it was much more

acceptable to most prechristians.

Way to Go!!

Jan 20, 2012 1:37 PM Guest Molly M.  says:
I was pleasantly surprised when this commercial came on!  I would love to see more of these!
Jan 20, 2012 3:22 PM Guest Judith B  says:

Wow, where all did it air.  Was it all over or just in Colorado?

It is absolutely wonderful. Thanks for putting it on.  I hope many saw it.  Was there a way to follow-up?

Jan 20, 2012 3:13 PM Guest Cherry S  says:
Perfect tool for giving the gospel message...wish there were more of these aired on prime time!
Jan 20, 2012 5:06 PM Guest mvhidi  says:
And the children shall lead them.
Jan 20, 2012 8:00 PM Guest Christine  says:

We are not ashamed of the Gospel. John 3:16 is pure truth. But children speaking a posed dramatized delivery is a bit theatrical. The gospel doesn't need embelishment. Indeed, a heartfelt recitatioin by diverse Christian adults who've deeply experienced  the way, the truth, and the life in John 3:16 might be more poinent to a non-believer. In any case... the Word rang out.

Thank you.

Jan 21, 2012 7:54 AM Guest Janis K.  says:
Dear Mr. Daly -   I think the commercial is so awesome; cool and glorifies our Lord.  Thank you so much for airing it.  near my heart -  janis koby
Jan 21, 2012 7:54 AM Guest Phil H.  says:
Great commercial presenting a powerful message in a non-offensive way (kids).  I think that Tim Tebow constantly reminds me that we need to take advantage of the opportunities/talents that God provides us, whether it be playing football or speaking boldly for Him; living life day by day, appreciating everything that God brings.
Jan 21, 2012 7:55 AM Guest Chuck F.  says:

The name of the Lord will be proclaimed throughout the world. What an awesome way God is  making this happen!

Jan 21, 2012 10:36 AM Guest Judy C.  says:
You should have commercials like John 3:16 on more often!  It was fantastic! God's word will not go void!  May God get all the honor and glory for your efforts!  Thank you
Jan 21, 2012 2:19 PM Guest Wanda K.  says:
I loved the commercial!   Thanks so much for airing it!
Jan 21, 2012 2:19 PM Guest Tim H.  says:

The commercial was well done. Out of the mouths of babes God speaks hope to see more.

Thank you

Jan 21, 2012 2:20 PM Guest Bob and Yvonne T.  says:

The "Wow" girl at the close summarized our feelings after viewing this 30-second Glory To God commercial.  Heavenly seeds were planted worldwide.  We sat blessedly stunned after watching those precious little tykes recite the verse with God's Spirit shining through their eyes.

Jan 21, 2012 4:09 PM Guest Lota  says:

Whatever, it takes to show the christians are standint up for Christ in this country. Whereas,  Washington is trying to tear this country down piece by piece say we don't believe the truth. God is the higher power not Washington leaders who bully our nation.

As a Christ follower, and a Bronco fan for the last 33 years, I have been uncharacteristically glued to my TV and sports radio this season to hear what Tim Tebow will say and what other will say about him.  It has been an amazing year, the likes of which I have never seen.  Jesus has been brought to the forefront of audiences around the world through the boldness of one young leader.  It brought tears of pride and joy to my eyes when I saw the ad and the timeliness of it.  I see so much Christian effort spent on trying to get Non-Christians to conform their behavior to what we think it should be instead of sharing Jesus with them so that he can do the work of transformation from the inside out.  Thank You!!!

It's awesome and great lifting in my heart to see and hear. That all who hear, are able to get the message of Jesus and will themselves feel the 'Wow!'.
Jan 23, 2012 6:27 AM Guest Colleen M.  says:

The commercial was fantastic.  My husband and I stopped in our tracks in amazement that this would be on national television during a major NFL game.  And most of all, what a GREAT message that the whole world needs to hear over and over again.  I never tire of hearing it!  So thank you, thank you, thank you for your bold and inspiring stand for God and His son Jesus Christ!

Praying for your ministry to thrive,

Colleen M.

Jan 23, 2012 7:49 PM Guest Patricia V.  says:

I agree with Jerome. My husband and I are also 65. As grandparents, commercials with children in them always get our attention. We've had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ for a very long time. This new approach to getting people to look up John 3:16 was great. The children were sincere and very believable. God's Word says 'suffer not the children to come unto me' and this was a perfect example of why that is so important. We pray many more people will come to know Jesus the way we do as they here about the commercial, view it, and ponder on it. May they have the heart to receive the loving message of our Lord and Saviour.   Patricia V.

I am a 64 year old Vietnam vet; was an AirCav pilot and saw a lot of combat.  When I saw this commercial, I knew the impact it would have and I wept for ten minutes. God Bless Focus on the Family!!!  Where is my checkbook?!

There was a group of about 6-8 of us watching the Broncos game and when the commercial came on we were all dumbfounded. After it was over we all just looked at eachother and said "WOW". We are all Christians and I praise God for the impact this media has and will have on the world!!!

When I saw it, I too, said YES!!!  This is AWESOME!!  Can we have more of this?  You're wonderful Dr. Dobson!!!  If one person came to believe, it was worth it!  We MUST keep on reaching out!  Thank you again from my heart!

I missed seeing the commercial and am unable to view it on our computer but am so thankful it was shown! I wonder how many were saved that night just by hearing it!

As for Tim Tebow ... what a wonderful man people can look to to see the light of God shining through! He does things in his life for God, not himself.

Thank you Focus on the Family for putting this wonderful message - John 3:16 - out there!

Thank you.

Jan 24, 2012 4:15 PM Guest Lori B.  says in response to Kathleen :

HI, Kathleen!

I think of it this way:  America is being "preached" at constantly through commercials.  Unfortunately, the advertisements we typically see/hear during an NFL football game usually preach that life is about sex, beer, and nice-looking cars.  I am so thankful that Focus on the Family offered a commercial that let so many people know about the best gift anyone could receive: the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

P.S.  Sometimes people laugh when they are uncomfortable, or when emotions are intense and they don't know another way to respond.  Sometimes people make fun of something to make themselves feel more superior.  When you hear someone laugh about the commercial, I would encourage you to ask, "What makes you laugh?"  Invite conversation and discussion -- not to convince, but simply to understand the other person better.  The cool thing is:  God might want to use YOU to draw someone closer to God.

Blessings to you!

I was unable to watch the commercial on TV, however I did get to see the commercial on your web site. I am thankful that Focus was able to do this and I praise the Lord for all those who made this, commercial available. I hope to see more.  Again thank you Focus, and thank you Pam, and Tim for letting God lead you!!!

Jan 27, 2012 8:59 PM Guest Mary  says:

I never sit and watch a game from start to finish, I pop in periodically to see what's going on.  Fortunately one of those moments was just before the commercial.  What a wonderful surprise!  I live in MA.  My sister lives in SC.  She called moments later excitedly asking "Did you see that?"  It was beautifully done. Thank you for doing this.  It's just what this country needs!

Jan 30, 2012 6:56 AM Guest Donna H.  says:

Job well done! Excellent choice of venue; keep people talking and don't oay attention to the nay-sayers. It was wonderful to hear the message on tv.... between the beer ads!
