Get Well Soon, Dr. Dobson!

Posted by Jim_Daly on Sep 11, 2011 7:47:00 PM

We learned last night that Focus on the Family founder, Dr. James Dobson, took a fall while horseback riding with friends. Although he suffered several broken bones, he's in good spirits and expected to make a full recovery.JCD1.bmp

Please join me and the entire Focus team in praying for him.

Wow, this one didn't arrive in my Inbox with the other Finding Home mailings!  (I just saw the title in the right margin after reading today's article.)  Dr. Dobson's ministry has impacted my Christian service, parenting, and equipping those in my sphere of influence for three decades.  I barely go a day without finding some reason to personally reflect on or reference his teachings for others.  SO sorry to hear about the fall, Dr. Dobson -- may the Lord be your strength and your comfort, and may your recovery be an unplanned but memorable time of communion with our ever-present Lord.
Sep 14, 2011 7:23 PM Guest Daniel C.  says:
If you are going to break bones, there isn't a better way to do it. Outdoors, horses - the closest thing to heaven. What other animal comes down from heaven? Way to go Dr. Dobson, you are our hero!

Dr Dobson,

Consider this a get well prayer! Thanks for blessing me and my family over the years...I first listened to you as a new believer when I was 20 years old in 1981 while mopping floors at the restaurant where I worked. My husband and I have now been in the ministry for 25 years! Thanks for being part of our lives!

In Christ, Lori M.

Sep 14, 2011 8:54 PM Guest Anita T.  says:

Hi Dr. Dobson,

I can certainly relate, as I had a very bad fall from my horse Oct. 2008.  I broke my arm & wrist, was in the hospital for a wk., & had 2 surgeries.  It took over 6 mths. to recover.  PTL that I have full use of my arm & wrist (to the surgeon's surprise)!  I'm praying for a quick recovery for you.

P.S. Be sure & always wear a helmet!

Sep 14, 2011 9:20 PM Guest Cheryl  says:

Dear Mr. Dobson,

Thankyou, so much for being an example and model for what we should be as God's children. My prayers are with you.

Sep 15, 2011 5:54 AM Guest Joanne D.  says:
Dr. Dobson,
You and your work have been a large part of our lives for well over three decades! Almost 25 years ago we listened to the very first Adventures in Odyssey album on cassette tapes, and over the years have assembled well over 35 volumes! During the Barclay Family's ski vacation, George Barclay made what has become one of my favorite lines that I apply to my own marriage, when he quipped to Mary, "Have we been introduced?" We have wept with Tilly, and have had our hearts warmed by so many of your Christmas letters (I still have several stashed for Christmas season retrieval). It's a long story, but in my opinion your "Updated Panel on ADHD" saved our (now-27-year-old) daughter's life . . . and now I'm nearing completion of a M.A. in professional counseling from a Christian university. Coming from a USC family, and an alumnus myself, I can understand your pride in being a Trojan alum!  :-) Thank you so much for your biblically based encouragement to us and to millions of other families as well. I am confident that  as word gets out about your accident, you will be supported by the prayers of millions of God's people around the globe. You certainly can count on ours as well.
With our heartfelt prayers,
Joanne & family

Sep 15, 2011 5:18 PM Guest Linda  says:
Dr. Dobson, I pray that the Lord would speak to you, be near to you and heal you during these hopefully restful days ahead during your recovery.  You and your ministry blessed my marriage and our 3 sons over the last 30 years, and we shared your resources with many others. My sons turned out to be men of faith we are proud of and one has even worked some with Focus! I never got to thank you in the note cards provided when you retired from Focus so I am glad for this opportunity to say thank you.  As my family grew up with yours I always thought of you like a modern day hero.  Thank you for remaining a man of faith and integrity.  May God bless you as much as you have been a blessing to others.
Sep 15, 2011 8:23 PM Guest Mary Lou  says:
May the Lord bless you, Dr. Dobson, with healed bones and with the encouragement that comes when many of your caring fans are praying for you.
Sep 15, 2011 8:12 PM Guest Suzanne  says:
Dr. Dobson, we are praying for a quick recovery as God continues to help you heal from your accident.  Your ministry has continued to bless our family in more ways than ever.  My son Gabriel, now 10, and I can't get enough of listening to the Narnia audio series that Focus on the Family made years ago.  He really pays attention and is understanding the teachings in the way the drama is played out.  We also read the book series. We enjoy listening to A Christmas Carol made by Focus also.  I am very pleased that you are still on the air with your new ministry so we can gain guidance from your teachings.  May God richly bless you in the years ahead as you have been a blessing to others over the years.
Sep 19, 2011 5:46 AM Guest Olivia  says:

Heavenly Father, we ask that you restore Dr. Dobson's bones to the way you created them.  Help him to heal quickly and bless him with your presence while he heals. Amen.

Dr. Dobson, 'be still and know that He is God' and during this time He will give you new insights.  Thank you for all you have done for families and are doing in praying for all of us.  God richly bless you.  And this is the time to let Shirley take good care of you, as she always does.  A great time to milk it

Sep 19, 2011 5:45 AM Guest Janice  says:
Praying that the bones are mending quickly with the help of the Lord's healing touch. When we are momentarily out of commission it just makes the realization of perfect mobility ever sweeter. Blessings, Dr. Dobson!

Wow, that's terrible! Good thing though that you just got a few broken bones and nothing else, it's not uncommon for a horse fall to lead to death or being paralized. Best wishes and Godspeed recovering! God bless!
